my first grow. small 2.25sq ft cabinet

i figured it would be time to try the art of growing cannabis. space is a concern as i still live with my dad. i can only use a cabinet inside of my closet that will house maybe 2-3 plants with some lst. money was also a concern as i cant afford the prices of grow shops. i currently have 2 bag seeds sprouted. buying seeds will be for after growing is second nature.

this is my setup
- 4 6700k 23 watt cfls (5500 lumens per sq ft for all 8 cfl's
-4 5000k 23 watt cfls
- 2.25w x 2.25h x 1d cabinet with one open end for keeping temps in check
- 3 fans of various size to keep airflow
- miricle grow african violet soil with 25% perlite
- no nutes yet still to young



i know i dont have the best setup but its all i could afford.

Miracle grow african violet soil is too acidic for cannabis, african violets need acidic soil to grow properly. Your grow box is a bit too small, your plants will grow at least 1.5 to 2 ft or more when flowering add the space of your lamps and it sure will be crowded in there. Transplant to better soil. There's a lot of talk on here that miracle grow soil is not the best for you plants. btw they look pritty good considering....Good luck.

once im able to get better soil i deffinatly will. kinda feel weird going to a grow shop. i was also thinking of extending the high, i have a 8 sq ft closet so i could go to about 5-6 ft high

no need to try to break the bank ...Do the best you can /with what you got...So far looking good...You already said you will change the soil..You can go to any nursery ,Home dep or lowes..no need to go to a grow shop :) Subbed yor grow ..peace..

That 8ft. closet sounds much better, like above said home depot or lowes but even grow shops shouldn't feel weird they have no idea what you're growing, tomatoes, cukes,berries what ever.
You're heading for a good start, just be patient and you'll be well rewarded. grow my friend,grow.

what are some good brands for soil? i know fox farm but if i can get something at lowes or walmart it would be way easier for me

I'm not a soil grower, so I can't help you there but I would assume that any good soil will do but personally I'd stay away from miracle grow, there are a lot on here who don't particually (spelling?) like that stuff.

so heres a little update. i added a 26w 2700k cfl to the box to get some red spectrum light in there. i decided that I would also try to lst one of the two. it shall just add to my knowledge so i figured why not.

Definitely LST. Your box wont have enough room if u dont. Flower them early as well.

I use sunshine mix#4 and roots organic soil 60/40 split.

i can always add hight to the box. i was thinking maybe 4ft. im also searching for a low-med hight strain and grab some seeds...........but there are so many choices!

Just a quick update on the plants. there about 5 inches tall now and i think they still look ok. and one of the sprouts turned into the littler one wich im very excited about mainly due to first grow.im still undecided on when to start 12-12, im think maybe 8-10 inches.i had to move my grow cab outta the closet and into my room. temps went from 88-95 to 70-83 so thats deff helping. heres some picsQW.jpgQS.jpgQA.jpgQQQQQ.jpgQQQQ.jpgQQQ.jpgQ.jpg

i decided to start flowering the 2 bigger plants i have. im going to top the smaller ones once the get a few more nodes. im running 10500 lumens per sqft, so this should be enough. i switched to almost all 2700k cfls and got my box completly light free with the help of cardboard and duck tape. i hope my poor mans grow ends well bongsmilie
