My First Grow - SH Bubbleponics w/ Northern Light

Hey guys, I am new to rollitup and this is my first grow.. I have the SH Bubbleponics 6 plant system with 2 dual spectrum CFL's.. It comes with everything you need basically with pre-measured nutes and all.. I was thinking I am going to grow 4 plants instead of 6, being that I have read that 6 can be too much for this system to handle.. I am still setting everything up, but I was wondering if anyone had any pre-op suggestions that could help to ensure that things get off to a smooth start..

So far I have gathered that I should ensure that no light can get to the roots/seedlings by using black electric tape to cover the lid... Do I put the tape on top of the lid closer to the lights or under the lid by the water (if any at all? I am not a scientist, but my guess is that it would not stick for long under the lid due to humidity)

Also I am growing in a normal sized sliding door closet with a decent sized space to work in.. The closet is painted white, should this suffice for reflection and good lighting or do I need something else.. Also should these 2 dual spectrum lights be enough to fuel these 4 plants in both stages?

I want to start the seeds in the rockwool by putting everything together and placing the seeds in the rockwool, then pouring the nutes and water over the rockwool just enough to wet them like it says in Roseman's grow instructions... Does this work well, or does anyone have a better suggestion to get the seeds started??

Also I could really use tips on how to use the preset SH bubbleponics nute kit at first so that I dont initially over or under supply the nutrients...

Another thing, what is the best type of water to use for this? Does the ph need to be a certain number before I start?

Please if anyone has any suggestions or tips it would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks,

You need a ph meter and a ppm meter no matter what to properly maintain the nutrients. I started 16 seeds in rockwool and 14 sprouted. All I did was make sure the RW was moist and not wet, by shaking out excess water from the RW. I kept the cubes in a open zip lock bag until they sprouted, I then moved them to my DWC.

I don't know anything about SH nutes but I would not trust pre-measured nutes. Plants behave differently so it's difficult to use a general nute plan, you have to use what works. If you only want to grow 4 plants start 6 inc case any don't sprout or end up male.

If you have the $$$ after vegging you should buy a 400w HPS to flower. You will be much happier with the results, trust me. i just upgraded from floros to HID and the results are obvious. CFLs will work for flowering but HPS will give you big buds!

I run a 5.8 ph, the only way to be certain I have a 5.8 ph is a digital ph meter. Check out my grow I think I am using a similar sized space as you.

I would recommend 2 coats of black spray paint on the inside of your DWC reservoir and 1 coat of black and 1 coat of white on the outside. Electrical tape will keep out light, but I think spray paint would make more sense. People say white will reflect fine but I paid $13 for a 25'x50" roll of mylar from htg supply.

Hope this helps!
