Grow Journal

This is my first time growing cannabis and I'm really excited to start! Although I've read a lot of books on botany and cannabis cultivation, this is my first time actually growing it. I expect to make a few mistakes along the way, but hey, that's how you learn!

Strain: Gelato + OG Kush, Feminised (Photoperiod Sativa)
Soil: 20% Perlite, 80% Fox Farms Ocean Forest
Weather: Southern California, 55-75 F, 65-99% Humidity
Location: Outdoors
Started: June 17th, 2020
Plants Names: Regirock, Rayquaza, Gazebo

June 17
  • Germinated seeds with ¼” tap roots were planted in small solo cups using FFOF soil

June 20
  • Three (3) seeds sprout from soil

June 24
  • Transplanted all seedlings to 3 gallon pots.
  • 20% Perlite 80% FFOF for Regirock and Gazebo.
  • 20% Perlite 40% FFOF 40% Potting soil for Rayquaza.

June 26
  • Plants are looking healthy

June 28
  • Rayquaza and Gazebo toppled over during early morning rain, so I added wooden skewers as stakes to prop them up. Regirock seemed fine so I didn't stake her.
  • First feeding was today, 4 cups water / 1 teaspoon Foxfarm Big Bloom, pH adjusted

June 30
  • Plants seemed to regain composure, so I removed the stakes
  • Fed seedlings with 4 cups water + 1 tsp Foxfarm Big Bloom + 1/4 tsp Foxfarm Grow Big
  • A Few hours later, Gazebo and Rayquaza looked stressed (leaf tips curling / cupping). I think it's too early to fertilize these seedlings, so I will back off.

July 1
  • Flushed with fresh water. The girls are looking much happier now, and the leaf curling has lessened. I think they will be just fine.

Alright, so today was the first day of training. I'm using the "main-lining" training technique as documented here and here.

Basically I removed the top above the 3rd node, and removed axillary buds below the 3rd node. I decided to leave on 2 sets of fan leaves to give the plant a little photosynthesis boost. These will be removed later.

Not gunna lie, I felt pretty bad about this. This was my first time training a plant, and tbh I felt like I was hurting it. But I know it's for the best, and it will grow back stronger.

Plant #1: Mainlined

Plant #2: LST

  • Did another round of topping for 4 total tops. Plant is very healthy and is responding well to mainlining.
  • If I were to do this grow again, I would do LST instead of topping. The plant seems to be more vigorous with low stress training.

I think SCROG is used for indoor growing where you want to maximize light exposure while minimizing vertical growth.

Since I’m growing outdoors those factors haven’t been an issue, but maybe I’ll give it a try at some point.

I mean its done for a few reasons... maximizing grow space indoors is def one of them. But its also used to even the canopy, increase yield and allow air circulation to the entire plant. It has its benefits and ive most certainly seen outdoor grows using them

Sorry for the late post guys! We are well into the flowering stage, the plants smell absolutely fantastic. I would describe it as smelling like melons, citrus, and earth. The plants are almost as tall as me, the tallest standing above 5 feet!
