My first grow, Pics! Critiques welcome and appreciated!

This is my first grow. It is Auto Northern Lights and these ladies are 13 days from seed. They were germed in water/paper/coco and then planted into premium organic soil. They are in a 150x150x200cm tent and under 400w HPS. The temps were running between 24-29 degrees celsius, but I just added the extractor onto the cool tube today. Now that the extractor is set up I will start moving the light a little closer to the plants. There are two fans going, one is pointed out of a vent. I will start using the general hydro nutes later. Also, I have noticed the top of my soil getting dry quickly so I plan to add mulch. I had the humidity around 80 the first week and have started decreasing it, controlling it with the humidifier.

Ohhh and my timer broke so the have been on a 24/0 light schedule but I will get a new one and put them on 20/4 or 18/6 for the rest of the grow, haven't decided yet, still researching.

I'd really appreciate any tips! And sorry the HPS was on in some of the pics but growth is still visible.

The very last picture looks exactly how a few of mine looked a few days ago, that curling of the edges has progressively gotten worse. I still haven't found a solution. After a few days of this, the leaves appear to almost dry out. Zero discoloration, spots, etc. though. Things I've tried:

1. Moving lights up (heat wasn't an issue, I'm running LEDs with plenty of airflow plus I was way closer than the mfg. suggested height for seedlings)
2. Let them dry out real good (in case they were trying to sweat off excess water)
3. Today, after letting them dry out for nearly 5 days, I gave them a really good watering to where I got a decent bit of runoff.

Including pics of the same plant after 5 days of the curl progression. Hope it helps in case yours start doing the same man.

Anyhow, subbed to see how this progresses.

Google vapor pressure deficit
I don't know if thats your problem. I don't know a lot about it, maybe you'll see similar symptoms that you're experiencing. If not it's one more possible cause off your list.

Hmmm... roots grow downward...it has been my experience that the top of the soil should stay reasonably dry. Wet top soil can bring fungus gnat issues. I water pretty sparingly at seedling stage. Just enough to keep the roots moist but still dry enough to encourage growth. Just my opinion of course.

Thank you, that's helpful. I think I'll just let it be then. I hadn't thought of those other possible issues. So far I've only watered once a week but now that the girls are getting bigger and the light is closer causing more heat I'm expecting to have to water more frequently. Any thoughts on that?

In organic soil I would continue to water sparingly for at least 2-3 more weeks until fully rooted and stable... especially in that much organic soil. In general, I have seen more organic growerz start in a seedling mix prior to transplanting into an organic medium which is usually inherently hot.

But get other opinions this is just mine.:peace:

Looks good I wanted a tent but made a box instead. But looks good the temp is your problem though I keep my grow at or around 75 and natural humididy (because I have no way to control it). It all looks dry though try a water spritz on a timer

Like the grocery store lol. Where do you get something like that, I haven't seen one. Do you have a link to check it out?

Also, the temps have been better since I added the extractor yesterday, they've been sitting around 26c/78f which is better than before :)

400w...600w... will pull a pound out of 6 plants? Maybe but...

400/28.at a gram a watt that is approximately 14.25 ounces...

600/28 is 21.5 ounces...these are both under absolute peak conditions.

I have not seen a lot of indoor growerz pull those kind of numbers...in fact, I can't really recall any. But, not to doubt you at all... if you can pull a pound out of 1 400w light with 6 plants... it is awesome to be you.

I just think that is an unrealistic outcome for a newbie grower.

That said...I think that if done very well a half pound under 400w with 2 plants can be achieved...That is my goal for my current grow. My last grow I pulled 6.5 ounces from 2 plants. Fewer plants equals better light distribution...This is where a lot of new growerz error...more plants does not necessarily mean better yield...especially for an indoor grow. Any light is going to have a maximum coverage area...and as is well known the more light a plant has, the larger and healthier it will be, if grown under good conditions.

To the OP...keep growing and always pushing yourself to do better...big yields will come. Hopefully sooner than later but that is up to you.:peace:

So maybe when I'm ready to upgrade my light I should get a second 400w instead of a 600w so that I have more light reaching each plant. Anyway, yield is only important to me as far as striving for excellence in the art of growing. The product will never be leaving our home.

That is the best policy...2 people know I cultivate meds...me and God. But, we all have a need to show someone, anyone no matter who they are...Hence, anonymous chat rooms.

be careful leaving drops of water on your leaf's with lights on it may burn ur plants te water acts like a magnifying glass
