This was my first ever grow this year. I had a lot of failures and the grow went poorly, but I learned a lot and it might have been one of the funnest things I've ever done.
There is a place not far from where I live that has a creek and some vegetative area around it that is surrounded by a nice rural neighborhood. Picked up two clones from a club and bought some soil and nutrients, and got to work. My friend was helping me with the grow and teaching me about the basics and letting me make mistakes and learn from them.
The first thing we did is found a spot that we could obscure from anyone's view and have an entrance that people wouldn't see and want to investigate. We found an area filled with blackberry bushes that had a trail that went past a tree with a large trunk that was all twisted and formed a perfect entrance that avoided footsteps. We would step on the tree trunk and walk around it to our grow area, which was basically a large area filled with blackberry bushes.
We cleared out a staging area to work out of and than decided to cut a tunnel through the blackberry bushes to an area that received more light. Yes, we felt like kids cutting the tunnel, and the tunnel remained intact throughout the grow. Very much added to the adventure of it all.
When we were finally finished with clearing all of that out we set up out plants and checked on them every day. One of our plants wasn't very healthy, so we tried to nurse it back to health. I honestly don't know which strains we got. We were so focused on the grow area and the grow itself and totally forgot to document which strains they were.
We actually started in the middle of the summer, so we knew we wouldn't be getting much out of these. It was more tog ive me some experience growing.Towards the end of the grow closer to harvest we got unlucky and had rain and frost, and one of our plants had mold so we took it out at night and put it on the football field at out local high school. It was pretty funny hearing about it from my little sister and her friends, and made the loss not feel as bad. The other plant didn't give us much yield. We ended up getting 21 grams of some stoney outdoor. It didn't taste good, but it was great for making chocolate chip cookies with.
Things learned:
Airflow is essential. The place we picked was really bad because it was a breeding ground for mold and bugs. I'm sort of amazed we didn't have any bug problems.
Watering is a bitch. I think I'll like indoor grows much more.
Blackberry bushes are evil as hell, and actually a great deterrent for people. No one wants to fuck around with blackberry bushes.
Growing takes hard work and dedication and patience.
Something always goes wrong and you just have to stay calm. One day while we were working a homeless man who was smoking some crack in the creek area heard us working and came poking around. he saw our plants and we talked to him, letting him know how much work we put into it and let him brag to us for about 10 minutes about weed he had grown, which were obvious BS stories. We made sure after that to be more quiet and set up "traps" that let us know if someone else had been to the spot. Basically just things that people would have to move if they wanted to get in to our grow that would let us know if someone moved them. Ended up never seeing him again.
I love growing marijuana.
Thanks for reading. Sorry for the massive amounts of attachments, and that they aren't in any sort of good order. We actually didn't take pictures of the harvest. We had other things going on and forgot about documenting it. We ended up making butter with it and made a lot of chocolate chip cookies with our Mom's recipes.
I have been planning an indoor grow for the last couple weeks and I'm going to start building the veg room and a mother room soon. Feel free to ask me any questions or give me constructive criticism/tips. Thanks for reading!
