My First Grow in Soil. Nutrients!?

Hey guys,

beginning my first grow towards the end of this week so i'm trying to grab as much info as possible before I start the
growing process. As a first timer I was recommended to grow straight from soil instead of coco coir, which i'm happy
to do, and the real question I wanted to ask was what type of nutrients should I be looking for when using a soil medium
and also the watering process (how much/often etc). Is it correct to say I should mix perlite with soil or should that only
be included with a coco medium?

a big thank you in advance!

depends on what type of soil you can get. People around here from what i understand worship fox farms ocean forrest. however, if you are like me that just isn't available everywhere. unless your soil has perlite in it you should add some i put 25% in mine. just dont use time release nutrients like miracle gro moisture control or something like that. Do not plant seedlings in a nutrient high soil it can kill them.

perlite is a great addition to soil. the soil i started with was fox farm ocean forest. it gave me no problems except for 1 auto flower thought it was too much to begin with. Next time il probably start with light warrior then transplant into ocean forest. i add about 20-30% perlite to my ocean forest and 3-4 tbs of dolomite lime to begin with you will only have to water once every 4 or 5 days probably untill the roots develop. after the initial watering just feel the weight of the cup or pot and get used to the weight of it being full of water and being dry. then all you have to do is check the weights of your pots or cups to tell if they need watering or not.

nice thing about ocean forest is its packed full of nutrients already. so you will not have to add any nutrients first month or so. If you want to ammend your soil go to the organic section and theres a thread stickied about adding worm castings bat guano lime and other things where you can do a full grow without having to add any more nutrients after you ammend and cycle your soil.

if not just pick up a fox farm trio pack or whatever your fav nutrient is and hold off till you need them. if you only veg 3-4 weeks you will probably start adding nutrients around the time your about to switch to flowering.

How ya doing limey? I use House and Garden Soil A/B nutrients, as it is formulated for soil only. It has very low salt build up which is very important. There are 2 different formulas, 1 for North America and the other for the EU. Since I assume you live in GB , you can get the real deal there. Only kidding about the limey part. Happy growing and Peace
