My first grow in grow box HELP!

This is my first grow ever and I am growing hydroponically in a grow box. I have a few questions, I'm starting to get nervous about having enough space, etc.. I am growing 2 white widow plants. I have about 16 inches of vertical grow space. I would have had 24 inches but my top lights give me 16 inches left. I also have 16 inches of horizontal growth. Right now each plant is around 3" tall. I have 4 sets of fan leaves on each plant. My questions are:

What do I need to do about minimizing plant height?
I have been reading up on LST, is this a route I should take?
If so, when should I start LST?
If I have 16 inches of vertical grow space, when should I flower my plants?

I am posting a picture of my grow box to give you an idea of what I am working with. I am currently on an 18-6 light cycle and my plants have been in veg for 3 weeks and 1 day. Don't mind the browning/yellowing on a couple of my leaves. My girls have been recovering from nute burn for the past week and a half but are now doing great. The white powder on my rapid rooters is Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade, had a problem with nasty gnat larvae lol.

Thanks for any advice/answers you can give me!!

cover that res or root problems will not let you get to flower.
I can only but agree NEVER i mean NEVER use a clear RES. Root problems, algae, and slimy roots. that is just asking for problems. Get some black duck tape and go crazy :)
