G'Day Guys!

Ive recently started my first grow... I started smoking as I suffer Crohnes and it has helped more then any prescribed pill ever has :hump:

Figured its time I try my hand at saving some cash and growing my own.. I have done some reading in the past and tried in the past, but was called oversea's for work and left it with month old plants..

I cant remember the lights in using exactly, but im certain they are EzyGrow Lights... Germinated the seeds over 2 days (didnt pop the first), and they are now about 4 days in...

Soil Acidity level was around 6.0 - 6.5. Lights are about 15-20cm from the plants...

My big concern are the lights... Are they too close? too far away? My babies seem to be reaching for the sky, which makes me think the lights may be too far away??

Beyond that, I think for a couple of weeks I should be OK to let them be, then at about a month, look at introducing a good fertiliser?

I would massively appreciate any and all input.

Cheers

Hi there and welcome :)

And a big congrats on tossing the pills

I like you also got tired of paying big $ for my smoke, so two years ago I was in your shoes

I dunno about the light (seems very purple ?) can you try to see if you can read the Kelvin colors and watt on the ends of the tube please ?

but its fluorescent light of some kind, and it need to be keeper close, like 5-10cm (2-4") and you will need some stronger light soon and much more for flowering if you want any result out of your "trouble" as MJ is a light loving plant

best advice for you is to keep reading/researching

here is a nice place to look up stuff

http://www.420magazine.com/forums/frequently-asked-questions/83112-how-grow-cannabis-everything-you-need-know.html

look in to stuff like ventilation and air circulation and different grow lights like HIDs and LEDs, prober grow mediums for MJ and what kind of nutrients/micros/trace elements its need in different stages of its life aso

best of luck

It takes money to grow successfully. You'll definitely need more light and I'm not sure that is the color you want. Don't expect to be successful for your first few tries but DON'T get discouraged.

For a future reference people really give the best information when pics are taken with regular lighting so they can focus on the details of your crop(s).

Also don't be shy to give rep to people who do attempt to address your concerns & curiosities!

Good luck and congrats on kickin the pills!!

WOW.... Appreciate so many informed replies already! Cheers guys!

Regarding the lights, I have pulled another out and found the following;
SVLVANIA
GRO-LUX
F36W / GRO - T8
www.sylvania-lighting.com
Made In Germany

Nothing about the colours... I did research the lighting in the ealrier attempt I slightly mentioned, so i did feel confident about them, but now im starting to wonder.. hopefully the info above is enough to give someone here the insight to inform me...

The holder, holding the long light bulb its self does not appear to show much? I assume thats normal or no a worry?? (Hopefully lol)...

Money is not an issue.. From what I think and suspect at least.. Especially consider what an ounce costs from a local. Ready to loose a little to save some :) .. I had 1 light hooked up as I thought it would be sufficient for the plant size atm.. Had already bought 4 more bulbs and holders - will set up something to ensure i get more lights covering the plants tomorrow (2 at least - 3 hopefully.. see what i come up with on short notice... will also lower) :)

I am ready to get it wrong a bunch of times... I work in SEO, so a knock back is nothing new to me haha..

Cheers for the Ventilation Tip Slipon... I thought perhaps having it in the bathroom, high humidity, would be good - but thats just an idea I had from general gardening knowledge grfom high school haha... Will deff will at better circulation as that would deff be a problem I suspect.

GIving reps just via posts on the forum? or a button u can push (ive seen them on some forums, but cant see ithere)... deff ready to give reps already...

ive posted same question on another forum, same time, no replies... aussie centric forum o_O so yeah, i can see already where my returns are ganna be :D

Soil is an all purposed based ogranic indoor / outdoor plant potting mix...

Not a lot of info on the bag to be honest... Beyond Aussie Certified for General Potting / Gardening Purpose.. What certified entails - no idea, probably not what these plants worry about o_O

Will get some more pics tomorrow Jar... Regular lighting ":) Cheers again mate!

Your light is plenty good for the moment just get it right down there on top within 2 inches. Dont be afraid to replant or add more dirt. If money isnt a real object then got on amazon or whatever and get a 250w or bigger hps setup. Will make a huge difference

the light seems legit enough

seems like a normal T8 on 36W but with different levels of mercury and stuff in it to make it peak in the red and blue spectrums (hens the purple light) think I remember I once had some small watt Bulb`s similar to that, way back, was ok for supplement light

Im sure you could get some "normal" T8 36W 5000K bulb`s at your local market to replace em or every second of em if you find it necessary holders/ballast will run em as long as its the same watt and if its the same watt its also the correct length

(I could easily see two of them with two "normal" 5000K bulb`s in your 4 holders Veg some nice size plants in your bathroom ready for flowering in your 1x1x2M tent with a 4" ventilation/filter combo, a small clip on fan and either a 400W HPS or a nice LED panel or two if you think the heat from the 400W HID bulb will be too much for you to control and have the money to trow at quality LEDs

you can for sure grow from start to finish with fluorescent light, but it will be hard to match the results you get from HID or LED lights not to mention Sun light even if you get all the rest spot on

not mine either

I grow under LEDs

but I do use fluorescent tube`s to Veg with, before I used a HPS for flowering and tube`s to Veg with, seems like a good combo as MJ plants in Veg only need 1/3 of the light as a flowering plant to thrive and reach its potential

And you will need some kind of ventilation/air circulation, all we try to do is grow plants indoors as we for some reason can't grow em outdoors, so what we are looking for is copy nature, when optimal, that means 74-78F a RH on 40-60% good air circulation for fresh air (Co2) as the plant also breath, and of course some good strong light

with a ventilation you also get the option to filter the air and remove the odor, BELIVE ME ! that is something you want once they begin to flower, just a few plants in full flowering will smell nothing like a oz of dried Buds in a bag on your table, more like a Skunk in your closed

about soil, don't cut corners, its the home of the plant for its hole life (2-5 months) and a poor soil that is too compact and don't drain well and with a wrong PH (less then 6 or over 8 ) will only hunt you all grow and end up cutting your yield in half, if your lucky

get a quality soil with a PH on 6-7 that keep perlite or add some and use some pot`s that have nice big drain holes, MJ don't like to stand in too compact soil with poor drainages that stay moist/wet for too long and by that encourage a acid environment

get them basic things in order (light, air, odor control, medium) and keep it simple and it can be a smooth ride

Yes your t8 will do fine for now but don't wait to get the light you need. Hps/mh are proven just like LED but based on your setup I would recommend LED. It's so convenient with no cool tubes etc..

As far as the soil you really wanna invest in something you know what's in it and the n-p-k ratio. From what I've read potting mix is supposed to be mixed with perlite etc.. not just it self as a whole.

I do not mean to sound negative but clearly you are getting your feet wet in a vast territory. I wouldn't spend a ton of money until you know you can produce. With that I also can't stress enough on understanding the likelihood of your plants dying. When my first beans popped they lived for several weeks and I thought I knew what I was doing. (Studying here and reading many things even buying a growing book).

Anyways one day I woke up and checked on them like I do/did every day and they were all dead. The feeling of defeat was unbelievable and I was ready to start paying 300 a zip again.. After a couple of weeks I decided to do more research and adjust my approach. Now I'm 2 months in and still learning but it's progress. I just don't want ya to give up on it because a failure in the beginning!!
