My first Closet Grow on Low Budget ( 2 x Aurora Indica 2 x Short Rider Auto ) 2012

My second short rider is ready to harvest. It's ~110 days from seed. This took longer then I expected. A total of ~16 weeks for my second Short Rider. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

Today I also removed 8 weak branches from the two Aurora Indica plants to redirect energy into the strong ones. I have 8 clones from these and I'll give them to a friend who had bad luck with his plants. I don't have any rooting hormone, I'll use just plenty of water :)

Forgot to mention! This second plant it's 113 days old (~16 weeks ) from seed. ~20 older than the first plant. Funny, because the start date is the same :)

It's 127 days from seed. Plants are doing great. I got them underwatered once but it recovered nicely within few hours.
The branches are a bit long and weak and tend to fall because of the bud weight ( this is also my mistake because I should put the light closer ).
In the left side you can see the "ripped by cat" plant which is fine now. It has 3-4 main buds.
The second plant has more buds ( 5-6 ) and this after I cut several "pop corn" branches. Leaves are drooping alot but I'm not worried.

I had cats eating my plants in veg so i sprayed my plants with a cayenne pepper concoction and they havent touched 1 leaf since lol. They like to lay under my plants for shade too lol.

The cat did it but that's history. The ripped plant did well and has a big fat cola and some several side buds. The other plant has plenty of buds can't wait to harvest them :) Next time I'll use the cayenne pepper solution. Thanks for the tip!

No problem. Make sure you boil the cayenne pepper into the water if you do use it. It lasts longer. And also what lighting are you using??

I'm using 400w HPS dualspectrum. I had a 600W bulb but the temps were too high.
I'm a bit frustrated because this takes longer than I expected. I started my grow on 20 Feb :)

I know it hasn't been too long yet, but you got another update for us? Just started from the beginning of your journal and read my way through - Have to say... PROPS buddy. Things are looking great. For your first harvest ever, you should be extremely proud - you did very well. I do have a question though - did you flush the Short Riders before you harvested? You may want to do this for your Aurora Indicas. About 2 weeks or 10 days before you plan to harvest, flush them out REALLY good with just plain ole Ph balanced water. You could also add a flushing agent to the water - Fox Farm has one called Sledge Hammer - I've also heard of Royal Flush, and Advanced Nutrients makes one called Final Phase. Plain water will do pretty good, but adding a flushing agent will do even better. The reason we flush before harvest is to get rid of any excess fertilizer and salt build up in our plants. The flushing agents will break the salts down to aid in flushing them out. A general rule of thumb is 3 gallons of water for each gallon of pot size you have... so if they're in 3 gallon pots, flush (pour) 9 gallons of water through EACH pot. This sounds excessive, but I can assure you it is not going to hurt them. It will make one HELL of a mess, so my suggestion is to do it either outside, or in your sink or bathtub. The end result will be a VERY smooth smoke, virtually free of all additives and chemicals.

I don't know if it's true or not, but this is something else I've heard about flushing - Some people say that when you burn weed that hasn't been properly flushed, the ashes will be pretty much black in color. IF you flushed properly, the ash should be almost white or light gray - similar to the ash from a cigarette.

I am subscribed to this thread now. Again, props on your grow. You seem to be on track to have another great harvest with the Aurora Indicas. It's nice to see someone who knows what they're doing - you were patient enough to wait and watch the buds - not harvest early like many people do their first couple of times. Anyways man - good luck and I'll be watching until the end.

If you get a chance, come check out my journal - I'm growing a couple of Short Riders also. I am using 250watt HPS through entire grow, but it's in a small closet so should be ok - 100 watts per plant is the general rule of thumb I follow. My Short Riders are getting insanely tall though - I thought they would maybe be 14"-30", but they are probably close to 42" already, and keep getting bigger. They have started to bud nicely, now it's time to sit back and watch them pack on the weight. I sure wish you had a scale so I could see how much you yielded. Oh - last thing - when did you start to really notice trichome production on the Short Riders? I'm at day 40 or so, and although I have plenty of buds all over the plant, they aren't getting frosty AT ALL yet. I know they will, I'm just wondering how long it was before you started seeing "the frost" show up?

Sorry - one more thing... How long did your homemade CO2 generator last? Could you tell any difference after you added it to the grow? I was thinking about adding one to my room, but I'm already in flower, and my understaning is CO2 is most helpful during the vegetative state.

I used CO2 generators when the plants were starting vegging. For about 2-3 weeks. A 2 litre bottle could last almost a week. Depends on the yeast / sugar ratio.

Yes I did. I gave them plenty of water ( ~3 times the size of the pot ) in my bathtub.

I will do that!

I simply gave them food and water. After I noticed the buds stop growing I watched closely the trics with a 30x loupe.

I sure wish you had a scale so I could see how much you yielded.
I got ~3 jars of pure dry weed. One plant did pretty well, better than the other.

Today I noticed bud rot with my biggest cola. I cleaned up the place and made sure there is no dead buds around. The extra buds ( which were green ) were taken in the box for drying :)
It's funny because I never tought something like this could ever happend to me.
The plant affected is that "ripped by cat" lady.

And this is how it looks now. I got off even some extra bud just to make sure it's clean now. I've selected the smokable parts and it will be enough for ~3 joints. By the way I make my joints with 100% weed.

With this "bud rot" event I made sure the other buds are fine. If you suspect having a bud rot problem just try to rip a small leaf. If you can take it out easy something is not right.

Day 151 from seed ( 5 month passed ). Today I flushed both plants really well. From now on I will use only plain water. I'll harvest probably in 1-2 weeks from now.
One plant produced ~11 big&fat buds and the second plant ( ripped by my cat ) has ~4 buds.
My first grow experience is close to its end. I'm very happy with the results so far!
