My First CFL Grow

hey Mewk, when it comes to bending, I have seen your documented grows, and saw how you grow more or less horizontally opposed to vertically. Height is not an issue for me, as I am not growing in a compuer case ;) But my question to you is, how much do i bend the plant? I have never done this before, so I don't want to overdo it and end up harming it.

Hey Guys, I know that this is the CFL forum, but I have one question to ask, and I think it'll be ok since this IS my thread ;)

I found this thing, and cheap (LED Reflector Light 144x3w). http://www.topledgrowlight.com/reflector-led-grow-light-144x3w.html#.UpNhgI01HjA

My question to you guys is, would this light fixture, hung off of the bottom of the shelf be enough light for 3 simultaneous plants? I know the CFL getup I have now is just about enough for 1, but I want to grow a few at the same time for the next grow, so let me know guys! Thanks!

Just go really careful man. You know when you're bending the branch of a tree, you can tell when you're gonna snap it, it's just the same kinda thing but on a much smaller scale (obviously, I guess. doh.) Go easy, sometimes I tie her down and just pull her in a little bit, then a couple days later she's happy there, and I can pull things down a little more.

Also, I tend to only bend fresh young branches, once they've thickened up, I leave 'em be. They're nice and flexible when they're new, so maybe it's more a case of just keeping a regular check on things and working along as you go.

Soz, no idea on that LED fixture thing. Not my area of understanding at all. :)

//EDIT//

WOW... 275 bucks for that reflector??? Surely there's things to do with your grow that you could better spend the money on than that?
or maybe I'm just a skinflint... oh, yeah... thinking about it... I am.

Yeah, I noticed that my girl is a bit too thick to bend now, but I read what the use of this LST is, and I am just now moving around the small CFLs 2x daily, so that the plant has more light in the under lit areas. Can't bend the girl anymore, but at least now I have the technique for next time. Thanks Mewk!

UPDATE: babygirl 11-27-13 at 9.39 AM #2.jpg No budding yet, but DAMN my girl got big :D I just woke up to a crazy dream that my girl dropped balls and turned hermie. I woke up from my nightmare, ran up to my cabinet, and was quite relieved to see her totally normal, just bigger!

She's a monster! You could also deff still LST. If you drilled a bunch of holes around the rim of the bucket, then just tie the new branches and gently start pulling them down towards the rim of the bucket. I did it years ago with an plant I was growing outside in a pot, she ended up like a small hedge.

Alright guys! I need help again. I am running the same exact setup as in the beginning of this post, but now that my girl started flowering I am debating what to do with the lighting schedule. Since she is an Autoflower, my breeder said 24/0 from seed. But for some reason I disagree. She is only about 20 inches tall from the top of the dirt, so I am thinking that my yield from this one will be quite small.

I read that a few autoflower growers have done 24/0 and 20/4 resulting mostly in under 1 oz per plant (some of the time under 1/2 oz) and then the same growers said that on the same strain with a light schedule of 12/12 have reported 1 1/2-2 oz yields the next time they grew.

My question to you guys is, how drastically can I reduce the light amount per day until I get to the amount I want (ideally 16/8 or even as low as 12/12) because I have head room for her to stretch, and I want to get all of my variables in order before I start the next grow. Right now I am 24/0 and I would say that she is about 3-5 days into flowering, but has a total life span of about 65-80 days...

WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!?!?!? (any feedback or help will be greatly appreciated!)

First of all, don't worry about the height. Autos are generally short ladies. Plus, she's gonna still stretch a bit while she's flowering!

When you're running 24/0, she doesn't even have time to rest.

So, my opinion is, switch to 18/6 until the end. (Just switch the timer of your lights. If you don't have one, get one.)
Just figure out what times are better for you to have her lights off. Remember, no light penetration when she's sleeping!

Personally I started 20/4 but switched to 18/6 to give her more time to rest during flowering! I don't know about 12/12, never saw someone doin this with an auto!

Cheers!!

Ok, I will! Now one more question though. Can I go directly to 18/6, or should I gradually bring it down. 23/1,22/2,21/3,20/4, etc... Any ideas if a drastic change from 24/0 to 18/6 will harm her?

No, it's ok, that's the way to do it, to change her light schedule. Directly. As long as you don't do it often. Basically, don't change it again after that. This is the best option! Cheers!

I totally agree with the dude. I have heard that with autos 18/6 is usually the best light/dark schedule. I have also heard that some auto growers will reduce the lighting to 14/10 then 12/12 over the last two weeks. It seems they do this to increase resin production and quality. Something to consider but like always, do your research. Peace.

Just a quick update... Still no signs of budding, but she is getting bigger every day! Photo on 12-1-13 at 1.07 PM #2.jpgPhoto on 12-1-13 at 1.08 PM.jpg Let me know if any of you guys have a guesstimate on how much she can yield? I know that I am a very curious cat...

Photo on 12-12-13 at 3.34 PM.jpgPhoto on 12-12-13 at 3.34 PM #2.jpg guys, i'm having serious problems! i don't know what happened, but my guess is that i over watered, with too much nutes! there hasn't been any real growth in like 2 days already since the leaves bent. the plant is kind of sagging, and looks sick for the first time since seed :( Does anyone have any quick solutions to this? I heard getting this kind of reacting in the flowering stage is one of the worst things that can happen. all of my bud sites are full of hairs, but they are just not getting any bigger. I'm really worried guys!!!! Thanks in advance!

how often are you watering her? it does look overwatered a bit. I'm no expert though. I usually wait at least 3 sometimes up to 5 days between watering/feeding. I'm running a 3 gal pot.

i think i didnt water for like 4 days, and the soil was really dry, so i watered with 2.5 instead of 1.5 liters, and i think i was stoned and put two capfulls of nutes like an idiot, but that i'm not sure about... i also usually wait 3-5 days. i stick my finger in the dirt and if its totally dry an inch in, its time to water, or at least thats what i've been doing.

better watering method ive been told and i use is to lift the pot. if the pot is very very very light its time to water. if its still heavyish it still needs time to soak up whats left of the water tha dry :D
