My First Cabinet!

Hi there,

I have been lurking here for years now and when I had an opportunity to pick up a free 3'x2'x7' HON storage cabinet...well...I wasn't going to be denied!! I bought foam weather stripping, which fit nicely into the corners of the doors and then taped over them with reflective tape. Taped the rest of the seams and, added weather stripping to the door frame and voila, no purple light escaping!! I used a hole saw to cut a nice circular hole in the back of left corner for the power cord and plugged the cord with one of those ezcloner neoprene puck things...that and a some well applied tape!

Critiques?

Props to Rumpleforskin, as I followed his bubble bucket design and also made a cloner from his plans as well.

Ignore the PVC in the upper right corner (inside the cabinet)...I am taking that out and will be connecting flex duct to my carbon filter instead...no idea what the hell I was thinking!!

p.s. That's a 500W Blackstar hanging for light leak testing. I plan on putting a 180W Blackstar inside as the 500W already has a home.

Looks nice.

Definitely a carbon filter. Also an intake. What i'd do for the intake is about 4 ft up the back of the cab and cut your intake hole, and use some snorkle type intake so it sucks it in at that 4ft height and bend the air straight down to about 6 inches max above the floor so to minimize light coming in. Also i'd put some sorta filter at the end, nothing too crazy, just like a screen so no bugs get in.

Any idea on what fan you're using for the carbon filter? I'd recommend you go with a really nice quiet fan if this is for stealth. I'd also double proof myself and make a box to go over the fan.

Funny, I was just looking at the center of the case...about to head to the hardware store and see if they have 3" flex duct. That way I can put a small flange on, attach the duct and just loop it for a cheap and easy light proof passive intake. Also, if I need more intake I can always mount a pc fan to push air in slower than it's exhausted to keep negative pressure...or so I hope! So glad I cut my large opening in the top right...will be perfect for when I mount the carbon filter up top.

I'm mostly DIY, but I couldn't beat the price on the carbon filters / fan combos I found at Gotham Hydro so I ordered a 4" duct fan and a carbon filter from them (among other things).

I like the idea of closet/dresser type grows. I wanted to when I was younger, but it was my parents house and I ultimately decided its not a good idea. Now i'm working with an 8x10 room being a 4 month old grower.

Yeah you're good with the flange just cut a hole the diameter and slide it in, screw it in place. Get some hvac tape and tape the outsides and insides or caulking if you wanted. I was thinking something like PVC pipe. Less sags which means less resistance and just one bend down and a 3 ft piece sticking straight down. I think you'd be good with the negative pressure especially if its sealed and wouldn't need a smaller intake fan to push more air in.

I wouldn't wanna DIY a carbon filter so I don't blame you.
