this is my first grow and i am doing it in my apartment and i decided to try aeroponics because of how much quicker the plants grow supposedly as opposed to soil. i just ordered the lights yesterday so its not quite up and running yet but i am trying to get input from anyone new growers or more experienced growers to make sure my bud is healthy and plentiful. oh by the way i was wondering if the photos i uploaded are visible? im not quite sure how to see if they did or not. ok so i based my grow off of a diagram for a grow system by STINKBUD, except slightly different, and i got two 18 gallon rubbermaid roughneck containers i bought a 396 gph pump and put it in the bottom resorvoir and ran a piece of 1/2" pvc straight up the middle of the the bottom container, drilled a hole in the bottom of the top container and the lid of the bottom container and the pipe runs up about halfway into the top container where it splits into a "H" that has ten EZ clone sprayers connected to it. then in the top containers lid i drilled 18 2" holes that i lined with 2" slotted planters filled with hydroton expanded clay pebbles. the sprayer system also has a ball valve for draining. for the lighting i have ordered and am waiting for a 400 w ballast system that comes with a 400 w hps and mh lamp. a 4" reflector hood and a dual outlet mechanical timer. ill post pictures once its here and set up. now im still iffy on the ventilation in the closet because it is an apartment and i cannot make holes in the walls. what i have considered doing is taking a 20" normal room fan and placing it above the lights on shelf and cellophaning off both ends of the fan except for a piece of 4" tubing that comes out of both ends. one end will go right to the side of the light and pull hot air out and force it to the other side of the tubing which will end...well im still thinking about that. and i also have a 6" inline duct fan that is blowing directly on where the plants will be. any suggestions on this closet venting situation?? any question about the system just ask, come back to this thread too cause i am going to add more pics and keep you guys updated on how its going. i really would like to see some feedback so hope to hear from you soon

Hello dmt,

Just Thought I'd raise your spirits with a reply. My experience as a newbie/ rooky/fresh-faced scamp, is that I have had next to no replies to posts I have started. I hope your experience is better than mine.

Your set up is difficult for me to comment on as I am insufficiently qualified. I've just moved from outdoor to indoor this year and am on my 3rd grow, so still learning the indoor ways. Besides which, I'm a soil and CFL kinda guy.

Re Venting. You say you are in an apartment. Are you top, middle or bottom, and is the closet on an external or internal wall? Also, do you own the apartment? As this might effect suggestions of how far to go.

Pics look good. Good luck, JM

and i do really appreciate the reply. and it is a one story building so top i guess ha. and unfortunately the closet has no access to an external wall. i do own the apartment and pretty much have the run of the mill as far as what i want to do, within the limits of destroying the apartment. i alread spilled pvc glue in the carpet FUCK

Hmmm, I guess you've got concrete floors, so venting down is out. What kind of roof is it? Is there an attic space you could safely vent into? or crawl space?

Otherwise I guess low odour varieties, though were's the fun in that? or carbon filters. I know nothing about them though.

JM

actually i looked into your idea i pulled back the carpet in the opposite corner and it is plywood for the floors. so i took a hole saw and drilled a 2" circular hole and then removed the piece of insulation and lining that were below the hole and now i have a straight shot to the outside. so i ran some 3" ducting from the hole to my inline duct fan and ill use this to pull the hot air out

oh and its come to my attention that alot of people on this site like to look at pictures of buds and weed plants so im going to post one once a day or so, dont get mad if i miss a day though. ill post two today since i didnt yesterday. i have a very vast collection of high resolution weed photos. today is white widow and agent orange

i have a question for everyone. is take a oscillating fan and point it towards the light and also the duct with the 6" inline duct fan, will it effectvely circulate air in the room and remove hot air? i have provided a picture i made in paint so try and point out what i mean, hope to hear from you soon. piece. light. highmony

...I had a buddy that tried to use regular glass in one of these hood after breaking the original one....after about an hour of power the glass broke in pieces. Sooooo....you might want to investigate what type of glass these aircooled hoods use.

...I'm think'n your going to have an odor problem also. Do you have a scrubber, or carbon air filter?

I don't know your situation but figure it's worth asking - if you're venting to the crawl space, is it a space which could possibly be accessed by building maintenance?

ok so six days till my lights get here:shock::joint:, today i finished up what i can do of the ventilation system without the lights. and i posted pictures so you guys can tell me what you think. criticisms are appreciated. by the way if anyone is in an apartment and cannot put holes in the walls i feel ya, however gorilla tape hold up about anything, thats how i mounted my fan. i think im going to start germinating in a few days, as soon as the seed sprouts do i transfer it right away, or do i wait a day or two?. and as for the questions strain stalker i will definitely check into that glass idea and see what kind they use in those hoods, and i was thinking of doing my own DIY scrubber, anyone know of a good model i can use? and pinned, there is no acces under this portion of the building. so hopefully thats not an issue, ok well i hope to hear from everyone soon and im attachinga photo of the plans i used to build my aero system in case anyone wants to use it and i also have a few pics of my system setup. and i attached a pic of some XXX OG Kush. Peice. Light. and Highmony

RE the heat issue - I guess without experimenting you're not going to know. If the room and the inline extractor is big enough it should be fine.

Lovely bud porn BTW.

I would transfer a seed as soon as it had a couple of mm's of roots. However, I'm sure someone other people have their own ways, and I don't know whether growing medium makes a difference. They seem to manage okay in nature, but then nature allows for greater loss than we are willing to accept. Good luck, its exciting isn't it!? JM
