My cloning success story, just in case.

Hey I know I'm not the only one that struggled to clone.
It took me forever but I just got my first success, and there was 5 of them!

I used to try the plastic humidity tents, with a little water and rockwool cubes.
No success ever, except one flowering clone that was an inch tall and died.

This time, I used a glass fish tank, 2.5g with a glass lid that fits snugly (spellcheck?)
I took 3 plastic cups, one urine sample cup (for shits n' giggles) and one 8oz drinking glass with a chip in it.

I put them in the tank, and put one peat pellet in each cup.
I watered them to about 1.25" at first, and did my clones, get this: NO HORMONES!!!
That's right all organic.

I put them in the tank and put the lid on it. Put a 15w fluorescent fishtank tube light on top of the lid.

After like 5 days I put just a tiny splash of water in each cup.
Came back in 10 minutes and tipped each cup to drain excess water into the fishtank,
which adds to the humidity instead of throwing the water somewhere else.

After the first 4 days that I took them, I added a PC fan to the inside, and put the lid over that to mix up the Co2 in there.

I just left town for a couple days, came back and they all had roots poking out like at least a half inch from each puck.
They rooted, in about 7 days, with no hormones.
I'm going to wait another day or so to pot them, so the roots get nice and strong before they have to survive.

The only problem is two of them developed a deficiency, on the lower leaves, where veins remained dark green for a couple days, and eventually the whole leaf turned yellow.

The top leaves are great and I'll start fertilizing them after a few days in the dirt.

I honestly believe that the PC fan + No Hormones helped them the most.

These are just my results, you do it your way.

Love you guys no homo. I would never be able to do this without you all.
(except the man with the orange cat)

I don't use the hormones either...I put 18-2" holes in the lid of of a tupperware tub ( about 2 1/2 gallon )...I use 2" pots with starter pucks...theres 2 air stones and a small water pump going for the 1st 4 days, then I shut the pump down ( because of water temp )and just run the air stones.I fill the water to the bottom of the pucks and throw a humidity lid over them...spray them down every 8-12 hours...and so far it's been about a 90-95% are rooted in 7-10 days...oh, and I keep my PH between 5.5-6.0, water temp around 78,...don't worry about the lower leaves turning yellow,it's the plant useing up the stored food in the leaves while making roots.
Good Luck, it took me a while before I had any success too....happy growing!

congrats! my first attempt at cloning I'll try and get close to this setup
Bah change it however you want.
The setup is just the way to get the right conditions.
All the plant wants is as follows;

Subdued light. Right now is not the time to blast them with strong lights, they are too busy forming roots, which happen in the darkness inside the medium.

Humidity. Start at close to 100%, gradually work down to 70% if possible.

If cloning in a dry medium such as soil/peat/rockwool they want the medium to be warmer than the ambient air.
If cloning in a wet setup such as hydroponic or aeroponic, they want the roots to be slightly colder than the ambient air.

No nutrients, if cloning in peat or soil they can get plenty of nutrients that naturally occur.
I don't know about hydro nutes.

If you cut each leaflet in half, it will reduce the plant's tendency to give off moisture.
I'll add more in a second, I'm watching king kong.

i do it what way as well have a 15l fishtank 1 35w 7000k bulb i use 25ml shot glasses and let them soak in water till they for there own roots naturally 1st started with a tomato plant 1st as not to wreck my weed plants

thats the point moron you dont have to use rooting gel/powder to make roots there are many different ways to make roots look around the forum and learn a few things before having ago

as u only just joined the forum i suggest you read the rules before your quickly removed from it again

Wtf is wrong with you guys giving the kid shit,is giving newbs shit your way of contributing or helping the kid.

What a load.

Anyhow for the OP congrats on the success, however i do see you headed for a nute burn or plant death, reading your comments you plan to start feeding them ?

DONT FERFILIZE SEEDLINGS,EVER !!!!!!!!!!!

Even a barren cheap off the shelf home depot potting soil has more than enough nutrients in the soil to carry the seedling for about a month.

I am not trying to be an asshole but dig this, after reading what you went through to get clones to root & that you are anxiois to feed seedlings if you want to succed at growing pot you need to stop right now & do a bunch of reading on how to grow dope.

Again not trying to bust chops but you clearly have not studied enough to pull off a grow without a heap of problems.

There is an imformative thread in current posts right now that can show you the right way to clone with 100% success ratios right off the bat,i will find the thread & repost a link here tomorrow evening.

I honestly don't even have the patience to read the rest of your post, I know what I'm doing, I garden edibles as well, and honestly plant biology is an extreme personal interest.

I understand how a plant works.

I don't have seedlings, I have 5 clones, and I did my reading to find that they often "eat" the bottom leaves for food, and also from personal experience I noted that some of them didn't do that, and simply rooted fine.

I understand that a seedling doesn't need food until two weeks, I usually go for about a month before feeding.

I also understand that clones don't need food, and my plans on feeding were to do a 1/20 strength batch of fert, and add like a teaspoon to each puck.

Seriously, don't tell me I NEED to do anything, especially stop.

I respect that you know what you're talking about, but for the most part so do I.

Also giving what kid shit? Are you defending the moron who called me a bullshit waste of time?
He had 8 posts and the first thing he had to say to me was that I was basically stupid.

Also, to that kid specifically; The entire point was that I didn't need all that bullshit. You keep spending your money on pre-packaged materials in plastic bottles that hydro store owners sell you, and I'll keep doing things my way.

Just realized I said I was going to feed them in dirt, I don't know what I was thinking, but sorry for writing that. That is silly now that I think about it.'

And also, This clone session was 100%.

dude. panhead was on your side, but you didn't read his post. He was asking why people were giving YOU shit, saying that we should be more supportive and help each other, not calling you a dumbass because they do it differently than you. However, you outright stated that you didn't read his post and then flipped your shit on him, makes me wanna ask if it's that time of the month

Why'd you make a thread if you didn't want advice?

I dont think that he was asking for anyone's advice, just offering his personal experience with cloning.

It doesnt mater how you get there as long as you get there....ive tried several different methods of cloning: cloning in soil, cloning in a wet napkin, straight water, DWC and a Daisy cloner......they all get the same results, just a matter of how long you want to wait for roots and what youre comfortable with.

I just get a twitch when people tell me I need to stop doing what I'm doing and read more.
I read alot, thanks.

But that's not the point.

All I did was take my clean fish tank, put 3 plastic cups and a Urine Analysis cup in there with the lid off.
Threw one dry peat puck in each cup and added just enough luke warm water to inflate them to 1.25"

Then I took my clones like this:

My plant was tall and bushy, but the lowest two branches didnt reach the canopy, and using CFL's it didn't get enough light.
So I cut them both off at the trunk, and cut each branch in half.
Put each clone in it's own peat puck in it's own cup, in the fish tank.

Put the lid on, and slapped a 15w Fluoro Tube Lamp on there.
About 3 days later I took one last clone, another branch that didn't reach the canopy.
About 2 days after that I put a pc fan inside the tank to push air around and feed the clones fresh Co2.
And about two or three days later the first four had roots.
I took my best clone and repotted it in some dirt, and put it back in the fish tank.
Replaced my light with a 15w 6500k CFL bulb, and left the last clone in there next to it. (The clone that I took a couple days later.) This clone still doesn't have roots, but I'm sure they're going to poke out any day now.
I might just trash it.

The 3 other clones that I didn't want to keep in the tank, were placed in one 5" clay pot together. I'm going to Top & Fim the piss out of them until I have a little tiny bush.

It was very easy, and next time I go to clone I'm just going to take one.
