My buds are growing king's crowns - pics

Just wanted to share some pics of the last few days of my Northern Berry Berry plant.. I have pulled one cola off the plant last week just to get something started drying and curing while the rest of the plant finished. I also have a small bud on this plant that's making a few seeds from a cross I did. So I'm letting it ripen.

The other day I noticed that the fat colas had tips coming out of them.. Each one looks like it has stalagmites growing! I thought it was pretty cool so wanted to snap a few pics... The pics don't do it justice though, looks really neat in real life.

And here's the bud that I clipped on the 1st of Jan. Didn't do the crowning because that just started a couple days ago.. I'm thinking that might be the signal that it's near it's end?

Anyone else have any pics of their buds that did this? This plant is a day past 9wks of flowering. I have a Master Kush plant that's barely got any red hairs.. I'm guessing that one willl go 11 weeks, and this NBB maybe 10.

I love growing these plants, they always amaze me :)

Here's a quick pic of a little popcorn bud that I pollinated with the sperm from a Butterscotch Hawaiian x G13 skunk male - should produce an interesting crossbreed!! I'm waiting for these to finish up before I chop chop.

There's about 5 or 6 of them..

Nice did you manage to keep the pollen off the rest of the plant, if so thats perfect.

Oh yeah, that's the only bud on the entire plant with seeds. I used a paint brush covered in the pollen (in another room) brought it in (with the fans off!) and painted a small bud on each of my flowering plants. I used a pipe cleaner to loop around the buds that were pollinated so I knew..

Yep - I'm checking the trichs with a scope. Just a couple days shy of 10 weeks and there's still no amber trichs.. I guess I still wait! Same thing with the Master Kush I got going - that one is still almost all white hairs.. Im guessing now 11-12wks on the MK, and maybe another week on the NBB?

And this is my first time making seeds, not sure when they're done.. Just going by visuals - when they look fat and brown I'm guessing they're done..

Thanks for the good words.

thats good to hear it's fairly common, my bigbud crop i just harvested did the same thing... "king's crown" is a good description. I was afraid it was seedpods starting to grow but they only started after the flushing like sweetsmoker mentioned... is BC bigbud x HD fruity combo a sativa?... like Streetrider said it might be a strain thing aswell

The king's crowns may be a result of using CO2 in the last weeks of flowering. Another reason could be if you are still using fertilizer that is intended to grow your plants big. If you are- switch to fertilizer that is intended for the final weeks of flowering and turn off the CO2 2 weeks before they are ready.

those are your calyxes swelling. So far every crop of mine has done this. I just wait for it as they pack on a good 20% more weight. They will sprout a bunch of new hairs out of them, let them keep going. More weight for you to enjoy.

Hey I was wondering what nutes you use. all my strains do that too and I think its because there is too much k in my rez. I am trying to narrow down why its happening. If theres too much k it displaces mag. cal. zinc. and copper all of which can attribute to malformed buds. Also, do any of your fan leaves start to grow thinner with the fingers of the leaves tigher together? Maybe curl up like a canoe?
