My Breeding Project

It's been a lotta hard work. But, I'm really glad I got so many to sort through. It gives me a much better view of the genepool.

Almost everything but about 10 has shown sex already.

I found about three or four herms which was very disappointing. I haven't seen any intersexual traits since. Those of course were eliminated.

Found a lot of runts that were mulched.

All the males are separated and being vegged indoors. I'm down to about 25 potential males.

Males that continued to produce new balls after putting in veg were eliminated.

Males that showed any weakness or issues were eliminated.

A few had the type of terpine profile I was looking for, but the real test will be seeing how they smell in flower.

Meanwhile outdoors the females are all flowering nicely. Keepers will be revegged.

BTW, Those are just 2 gal plastic bags I get from the hydro store.

A little update for you all.

Down to exactly 25 males now. I had to cut several due to mildew. These males have been put through the ringer on purpose to test different instabilities. I have cut half already. I will now spoil this surviving lot with a nice solid veg before flip. It is after the flip that I will pick winners based on Terpines. Some seem really promising. The winning male from this lot should be quite a winner. I might take clones.

And the females grown give me a good idea of what to expect from this genepool. Some may get the reveg if they are special enough. The line could use some work but there are some really nice looking gems out there.

Rain Delay again. This is the female side of the genepool. I'm liking the diversity. Plenty of Phenotypes to sort through and they all seem rock solid as far as stability so far. No nanners. This is a good glance into the genepool of what traits my males will likely pass on. I like the general structure and bud structure so far. They are just getting going.

Several years ago I was at a dispensary in Colorado and talking to one of the budtenders there. He was like "dude, if there is one strain you have to grow it's Valley Girl by Archive seeds". For some reason I just remember that strain name because he was so hyped about it, but I'd never see it anywhere on IG or the forums. Until now. Congrats my friend, you're doing some awesome work with some great genetics.

Thanks for the compliments. I picked up the Valley Girl clone last year. Other than the name, I have no background on it. It seemed exceptionally frosty and had a strong odor. Kind of a rotten fruit smell early on that turns into a Kush smell later. I am letting the clone go and am already liking the offspring better. It seemed to breed a lot of recessives. The PR and TK were both more stable in breeding.

As far as CBD clones. I won't let them in the garden. I have no interest in breeding hemp.

I don't think most do unless wanting to make CBD high strains

Here's a Couple Triangle leaning males. I pollinated two TK clones last year but one was a different male with a slightly different smell range. Both of these are TK leaning from two different males. I hadn't mentioned that other male earlier because most offspring turned out to be unstable and there weren't many plants but this is a promising one and probably a better male than the one it came from. It
has a slight smell range but it is hard to pin down at this point.

This second one below is from my main male from last year.

The second has a slightly skunky kushy smell range and stronger than the first at this point.

Both did well with their stress testing and are recovering nicely.

I've yet to try do you get any bleeding out of the color when wet?
I haven't noticed any but then again that's for my outdoor grow.

Normally indoor it's the bags inside of buckets. But nothing that I've noticed bleeds out. If your worried about that... Best thing to do is boil a kettle of water and pour it into a bucket with the bag. Anything that will leach or bleed out will happen then... Normally if you have any bleeding it won't after that.

I'm about to start a line myself and was wondering how you test for potency? How do you know that a runt isnt one that tests super high in thc or terpenes? Or is it basically whatever grows best and smells best? Thx!

When selecting a male I have many many different priorities that all need to be fulfilled. But perhaps the most important factor is to match the smell as best I can between the pair. By sticking to this I won't water down the mother plant and if anything increase its direction and character.

Potency has not been a problem at all.

Read back through the thread. I go into detail on my selection criteria. And feel free to DM me, I'd love to help you out.
