my mom said she just got her next elec. bill and it was 750 $ she said the last one was only 300 $ and it is billed every 2 months.. i have only been using my new light which is 150 watt hps for a month and a half now so i was wondering how much that had to do with it... i was worried because if i am costing them that much money i wont do it but i think it could probebly just be from showers and laundry and stuff idk

An Extra 150w in the house shouldn't make that much difference.

Check with your electricity provider regarding on peak and off peak times.

Usually off peak is at night so maybe run your lights at night if possible.

smokingblunts you may want to call up your Electric company and ask them for a technician to come out and look at all the wiring and such for faulty wiring and or equipment. Mostly all Elec. companys do that for free, but be sure to check with your Elec. Company before doing so.

i dont know about in Oz, but here in the states power is power. it doesnt matter what time of the day you use it. there is a meter that measures power used and they read it monthly. they have no means of knowing when that power was used.

that seems like a terrible idea to me. call the power company to have them come check out the house you GROW IN?!?

smokingblunts- sounds like your mom is railroading you into paying the bills. it happened to me before. i grew at a partners house(never again!) and his wife tried to tell me the power bill went up $400 dollars from 2200w. i did the math and it only should have went up about $180. come to find out she had a past due bill and was just trying to ge tme to pay it.

1000W/150W=.15KW x 24hours (assuming your vegging constantly)=3.6KWH/day x 60 (two months)=216KWH x $.10(Ten cents is about the average price of a kilowatt hour)=$21.60. That is about how much your light should cost you over two months. It would be impossible for your electric company to be charging a kilowatt hour rate that would make 150W over $450 for two months. Something else in your house must be draining a lot of energy man, its not your light. That, or maybe some bad wiring.

we have "peak hours". we also have over usage. i'm hitting 300% over.

i'm running three 600's and a 250 right now. my bill went up 300 dollars while i was on 18/6 veg cycle. i just got the bull yesterday.

something other than your light pushed that bill up. a 150 shouldn't even be noticed.

yeah a 150 would prolly only raise your bill like 10 bucks for a month i mean my thousands only raise it like 45-50 a piece.Where are you in iraq?lol

how can they tell when power is used? im sure all i have on my house is a meter that only reads the total amount used.
i don't know, it's all listed on the bill though. :-|

i fixed my gas leak last month and cut my gas bill down from 75 dollars to 40. :hump:

if you wanna lower you bill run a line to your neighbors house pull his meter and run your line in behind his meter lugs and plug it back in..problem solved.Oh yeah i forgot you might go to jail, but give it a try

Dude its a 150watt.....There is no way in hell that it would go up even close to that.....And in Oz or Canada peak times cost more for electric. Why most Cdn growers will flower at night.

Your bill could have jumped up due to an "ACTUAL" meter reading. Did you ask your mom if it was an ACTUAL meter reading?
I'm on an ESTIMATED payment, and due to an ACTUAL reading, my bill just jumped up this month by $60. That's with running NO GROW LIGHTS last month.
I believe our Elec company reads our meter twice per year. Perhaps yours does also. There's no way Elec companies could read every meter every month.

When did you hook up your light?
If your bill went up $450 and your billed every 2 months, that's $225 per. Now if you've been running your lights for 4 months, and the jump in dollars was 100% your light, it would have been responsible for $112.50 per month.
But, if you are on an "ESTIMATE/ACTUAL setup and they read your meter 7 mos ago and then last month, it's feasible. A colder winter? More heat? "More LIGHTS left on", etc, etc. Was there a raise in your KWH cost? A minimal raise in cost over time adds up as well.
To overuse power in one month doesn't add up to much, but overusing power in one month X 6 really adds up.
$450/6= $75. It adds up. A little here. A little there. A small raise in cost. Some marijuana lights. Over time.......sure.

Or you can go with how your thinking...............it's from "Showers and Laundry and Stuff".

There's an old saying I always go by: "Liars can figure.........................but figures never lie". (cept if your Bernie Madoff)

Ask the electric company if she can read her own meter. They will teach you how to do it. Usually they will give you a small discount and her monthly bill will always be based on actual usage and she wont have any more large spikes / surprises. They will still come out and audit the meter periodically to make sure you arent cheating them.
