my beans and corn are up to like 3"

lol. i love the purple bush beans, known as "royal burgundy". generally, they produce very well. and steam up green. the plants are lovely. more purps, on the edible side!! i also have triple sweet corn that is up. as well as green onions, radish, chard. also some zuchinni, and my fav, some "patty-pan" squash. these are the ones that looked like lil flying saucers, with a scalluped edge. some are grey. but the color can varie. try to cut eat no wider than say, 3.5". to avoid seeds. with young zukes, some mushrooms, onions, and garlic or shallots, make a wonderfull stir fry. of course, add what u like. just use olive oil. or steam the things.

The best squash I ever ate was a patty pan squash that was probably 10" in diameter. Cut that baby in to large hunks and throw it on the grill with your favorite seasonings. Don't worry about seeds, they will stay in the center still and you will have food for the entire family. Yum!
