Hey there. This is my 2nd grow. My first was short rider using CFL's in soil. This time I am trying Nirvana's Super Skunk in a DWC setup running a 400w MH veg and HPS bloom.

SETUP
2x2x6 Tent with 1 plant
SCROG method
400w Metal Halide and HPS bulbs
(1) 3.5 Gallon DWC bucket
Single air pump with 1 airstone
eBay no brand Veg and Bloom nutrients (came with DWC Kit)
pH up and down plus test kit
Clip on fan

I plan on buying a 4" carbon filter, high power exhaust fan, and low power intake fan as well. I will be setting those up very soon.

She is 5 days from seed right now. Started her off on 8/21 in water soaked rockwool under a glass bowl.

My goal is to yield at least 4 ounces dry with one plant using SCROG. Let me know what you think.

Week 1 Update

Officially 1 week from seed. Starting to see some leaf growth.

I am running my 400w ballast at 50% right now because the temperature is getting warm with no exhaust fan. I also have the light about 18" from the leaves.

I have the water level in my DWC bucket 2-3" above the net and it's just about touching the bottom of the rockwool. This will only be temporary until she starts growing longer roots.

One of the leaves is starting to turn yellow at the very tip. Could be temp, light distance, or nutrients. Is it too early to be giving the full dose of veg nutes?

My pH is about 6.0. All suggestions welcome!

I would turn my light for 18 hours & go very light on the nutes if you can pull this off you'll yield more than 4 oz. no problem I'm on my first dwc run & I almost killed off when plants were young I would go over to the hydro section & ask some questions & at some point you might want to consider a better food such as floranova bloom you can use it by itself I used a ppm. meter from a drinking water pitcher/ filter & it work as young as your plant is over feeding is a big danger I'm using a 400 hps as well you're better off to root around now than you are to wait until you have problems & try to figure it out good luckimage.jpeg

Hey there! Looks good man. Looks like you've prepared yourself well nice little set up you have there. As Herk said I would go very light on the Nutes for the first couple weeks. Start at half strength and after a couple weeks bump it up to 3/4 or full. Good call on turning the ballast back I would've done the same. Maybe 3rd week turn it back up to 400. But if you are dealing with heat issues I recommend cutting the lights back to where you had it at 21/3 or something just so she can cool down some. I predict you shall be very pleased come harvest

Thanks for the advice. I'll go easy on the nutes for now and try an 18hr light cycle. I'll post updates next week.

Week 2 Update

Looking healthy. 4th node is starting to come in. She still has some yellowing at the tip of one leaf.

I am running 18/6 light schedule now. I still have not seen the roots come out from the bottom of the net yet.

I will be topping her once she gets the 5th node. Here's some pics:

Week 3 Update

I topped her at the 4th node earlier in the week. She has already recovered and is growing 2 strong main colas in that spot.

I am also starting to see some good root growth in the bucket.

Below is a picture where I topped and the next picture shows the new growth.

I started LST today by tying down the 2 main colas to make room for the secondaries to grow up.

Once she stretches a little more I'll start Scrog.

I flushed the bucket also and lowered the amount of nutrients I put in. pH'd it back to 5.5-6.0.

Lastly, she is getting yellow/brown and crispy at some of the leaf tips. Advice?!?

ALL HELP IS WELCOME!

It looks like old burns and not bad enough to worry about.. Yes you should have a ppm meter and some way to measure ph.. without them you're driving blind.. the burn is a warning from your plant... they do talk!!

Thanks for the help. I already have a pH test kit. I will pick up a ppm soon.
