Hello, I decided to create a journal of my first organic grow... just to share my experience with other ganja enthusiasts. I am gonna try to get the most out of my girls... let's take a look at my setup!

SEEDS :
Super Lemon Haze
Blue Mystic
Tangerine Dream
Grapefruit
Afghan Kush

SOIL :
1 1/2 Bail of dirt ( 3.8 cu.ft. ) ( major component: Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss (70-75% by volume), Perlite, Dolomitic and Calcitic Limestone, wetting agent, Mycorrhizae )
about 1.5 cu.ft. dirt from my compost

2.5 lbs Guano ( roughly half of a 2.2kilo bag )
5 lbs Flower Power mix from Welcome Harvest Farm 4-10-4 ( fish meal, bone meal, greensand, canola seed meal, langbeinite, kelp meal, rock phosphate )
2.5 lbs Fish & Crab from Welcome Harvest Farm 8-5-1
2.5 lbs Neem Cake 4-3-2
30liters of castings worm
2 tbsp Humic Acid

about 100ml tea compost mixed with water that I pored on the pile of super soil after I watered it

ROOM SETUP

4'x5' sealed room with a 4'x3' grow table
400W MH for both vegging and flowering
400W HPS for flowering (will be using both light for flowering)
190 cfm 4" blower with carbon filter
4" air intake pipe (air from outside)
Thermostat for the fan

I am also planning on doing a SCROG,
... the seeds were planted the 19th of September

one other thing... currently the temp is at 28 at plant level... but with the 2 lights I have to keep em a little further too, so with the thermometer on the ScrOG (16inches from the lights) the temp is at 30, still going for 2? (I am not planning on moving the lights up until late in flowering when the buds are stickin out a few inches above the screen). I will be getting a few more little fans to create airflow around the lights, will it help?

while I am at it with the questions, I ordered one of those hps +ballasts kit off of ebay :

400 WATT HPS GROW LIGHT SYSTEM 400W SUN LAMP REFLECTOR.jpg

its one of those ballasts that can run both HPS and MH, and there is a button on the side that says fuse and there is an arrow on it like I can turn it, is there different setting depending on which light I am using on this type of ballast? because the ballast is hot now, hotter than the old used ballast I bought to run the MH ...)

Thanks again!

Nice grow room man, prob for going all out and building a full room i wish i had the space for such a project! I like the U shaped scrog screen so the plants can grow up the side and maximize the light. My plants are just 2 weeks behind yours ill be following the grow.

yes, mine had a slow start under a T5 that was a little too far but I didnt care coze I wasnt home yet to take care of them! do you veg 24-0 hours? I am trying that out for the first time... wonder if it's worth my while, . I heard that once you start 24 or whatever schedule it's better not to change it until flowering so I guess I ll leave it on 24 for this crop, probably go back to 18-6 or 20-4 next time around!

Make sure to add a load of bacteria - grab some good active compost tea perhaps. Peat moss is fairly inert and organic nutrients must be mineralized (processed by bacteria) before they can be used by the plant. I would also suggest adding a carbon source to help facilitate the mineralization process - perhaps some alfalfa meal or even just some straw or backyard humus.

Looks good so far, keep it up.

Thanks Gastanker, I assume you read my soil mix,... I didnt think I would need anything else, how would you proceed with the alfalfa meal? mix it with the water or just sprinkle it on the top of my soil? can I use the same alfalfa that I buy for myself as a protein powder or its 2 different things? Also, I have this compost tea

composttea.jpg

thats the one I used in my mix before cooking my soil, I was actually going to ask if I should use this during the growth and how often and how much?

That compost tea can be used throughout the entire grow. Alfalfa meal is best when incorporated into the soil - might be to late at this point.

If you were using an all in one or 3 part from a bottle chances are it's all premineralized or selectively water soluble sources - in which case bacteria isn't as necessary. Sinse you are going with bulk natural ferts (bonemeal, blood mean, manure,...) then you should really add a bit of non peat based compost to your soil blend. peat moss is just very inert.

Guano and worm castings are both partially water soluble (immediately available). The rest of what you are using needs to be broken down first. You could always just add more worm castings - they contain a ton of beneficial bacteria. I'm trying to picture 30 liters... Is the brown stuff topping the soil in the tarp the worm castings?

the top layer you see is the food,... I didnt have the EWC at that point yet...30liters of EWC would probably fill at least half a 5 gallons bucket... I think they were 20liters bags, I used 30 in my soil mix, and the last 10 liters I used it to start my seeds mixed with a bit of dirt with no food ( actually I put half inch of supersoil at the bottom of my 4" pot so they get use to the food before I transplant )

Anyway: today's update:

On the pictures:
you will see I got the temps down just from improving the air intake...to 24 degrees ( at night when it's cold ... still goes up close to 29 in the day time for now ), I am waiting for a 400cfm fan blower to replace my 190... meanwhile I upgraded the intake right away with an insulated 6inches pipe!
It's hard to see but I chopped their heads, and the 2 to the right (TD & SLH) were tied down already because they will be transfer into the LEDs dresser as soon as completed!

Also, I am eager to start my first batch of tea, I got a whole bunch of great ingredients for it, it will go sort of like this :

from gardenerspantry.ca : ( if you endup buying something on this great website (only ships to Canada...) tell Christina Endur0xX from rollitup sent you there ... maybe someday she'll give me discounts! haha)

EM (effective microorganism)
Sea minerals
Liquid Kelp

Molasses and guano, which I had!

CHEERS!!

It is SO nice to see someone who has done their research and has done well with it. You don't need a mentor, you are doing fine on your own. Just ask questions, and when you hear something, ask yourself if it makes sense scientifically. Beware of a lot of false info you'll get. Fine job there!!
Get your alfalfa from a pet store. IE: Rabbit food. Preferably leafy alfalfa, but you can use pelletized for teas also. You can also boil alfalfa just like real tea. I'd boil a bunch of it and add it half strength to my water, or foliar feed. Alfalfa contains Triacontinol http://www.hydrocanna.com/organic-soil/7378-triacontanol.html a natural growth stimulator. It does help increase yields as well. It's abundant in the Bunny Poo I use as fertilizer.

Subbed. I want to see how the HPS and MH work together. I'm doing the same thing in a 4x4 tent in 5 gal Hempy buckets. Looks like a great design. Wish I had your strains in my garden now. :)

Subbed, everything looks really good! Very nice setup, I completed my frist scrog with 3 strains my last grow and I was very happy with the results!! Its a bit tricky scrogging with different strains but its definitely possible. Cant wait to see how everything work out for ya!

Today I am making my first batch ever of compost tea!! Thanks to all the Rollitupers that made it possible!

View attachment 1841180

in this one, I used:
1/2 cup of guano ( or less )
1/2 tsp humic acid ( or less )
about 15 grams of Alfalfa (protein powder I had for human consumption, 100% pure alfalfa it says!...)
1tbs organic blackstrap molasses unsulphured (or more)

I guess it will be bubbling for about 48hours!

for now, lets take a look at my girls, I chopped their head yesterday, hopefully I did it right, it was my first time, I only cut that little tiny top, the Blue Mystic is reacting really well to it, I can already see 2 tops coming out... unfortunately, the Afghan Kush is not doing so well, it had a few yellow leaves that I cut the other day, it just looks lame compared to the others!!

Enjoy!
