what exactly are the highlights of single payer..cliff notes version?
The government takes the healthcare system over. It either contracts with private parties to provide services or it hires its own personnel and operates its own facilities. You go to the doctor or to the hospital and the government pays. The insurance company middlemen cease to exist and the personnel/other private parties make less money, and the government presumably uses its scale to get better rates on goods and services. I'm not an advocate of single payer because I think the benefits could be achieved by other means, but it would be efficient, and given a choice between it and Obamacare/the pre-Obamacare system, I would choose single payer.
