Hi, bronco1500. I've read several scientific research about the effect of accustic waves(technically it's music
) on plants, their germination, development and etc.Here I'm translate conclusion from one of them:
If u want, I can give you full text of the research, but it's on Russian.
Also I've read the study, that said that when the sound is louder than 36dB (don't remember what frequency it was) in wheat seeds begin some destruction at the cellular level.
p.s. if you're looking for methods of plant stimulation, you should read the literature about the low-frequency magnetic field, ionization and gamma-radiation.

Yeah, I tried to listen to metal and my girls didn't like it at all apparently, I do see happier plants with country, god, that makes my eye twitch just thinking that. But they do seem to respond to this. I have tried alot of different genre's, and for whatever reason, that's the one they seem to enjoy.

Lets take a look at it this with a scientific approach.
If plants respond to individual frequencies then why are you guys playing music?
I'll use white noise for example, its a signal with a flat curve that plays all frequencies from 20hz-20khz which means it actually includes those frequencies that help plant growth BUT, like 95% of all music recordings it also includes other frequencies at the same amplitude that would negate all the good frequencies.
If plant/s respond to "individual" frequencies because sound travels & vibrates air, when you add in other frequencies of the same amplitude (95% of all music) the air/foliage/roots no longer feel the same frequency it was thriving off of.
The same goes for cheap/small/old or improperly installed speakers ect, they will not play flat which will change amplitude over the response curve, which is another reason to test with individual frequencies over music.

DEATH METAL!!! "mythbusters" did an episode and were surprised to find plants seemed to respond positively to deathmetal- loud and constant- I think they like the stimulation of noise- not a particular melody- could probably crank up a tv on a channel with no signal and let the fuzz scream! (of course, the extra growth could always be that they are just trying to get away from it...)

*edit: okay so once I started listen to this he's based this experiment on the frozen water experiments that I alluded to above (interesting when you actually watch something isn't it!)

Haven't tried it, I really wished they liked rock, but I could tolerate bluegrass a hell of a lot better than country. I'm going to try it.

I remember this from the 80s & 90's (I don't know if it's a myth or not) I use to play classical, that was what I recall was originally recommended as best for plants
I don't play anything for them this time around but when I'm working with them I usually play Little Feat or Billie Holiday, if that counts?
