Mushroom Compost or Miracle Grow?

BTW: I would never grow in straight mushroom compost.

All the stuff I've ever used was for a base and came directly from the farm. This is way too hot, and lacks balance, to use alone. Uncut mushroom compost will melt your plant.

^^ This. my first 2 outdoor and first indoor were on 100% MG products, from the soil to the nutrients... the smoke was harsh Yes but it was just as potent as anyone elses smoke. and if flushed properly you cant taste the MG it jsut tastes like any other chemicly grown marijuana. now i've switched to other stuff so that i can fine tune exactly what the strain needs.

im with tristy, go both ways

this^ it will burn the roots, horribly. mix 60/40 peat moss/mushcompost (i can use coco if u want) thats the best way to go.

I have grown with MG and it wasn't a harsh smoke, grew great and is quite forgiving. Nute burn isn't an issue with MG unless you do things to cause nute burn. All this hate on MG is sillyness. Use what you want and learn. Any anyone that says MG doesn't work will also give bad advice on on other issues stay away from those folks.

You are better off using MG than Mush Compost if your new at this. Mush compost it seriously hot.

i dont realy see any problems with that unless the PH os off or its clay. did you mix perlite into it? perlite is allways good as it adds airation and moisture retention, we well as helping the soil drain.

really you really had to go there I have grown several plants in a few different kinds of mg and have had nothing but amazing results. It might be the best soil but its far from crap.

I haven't used Mush Compost before but it is just composted straw. You can use other, easier products that will produce better results.

Keep it simple.

I would check the PH of the soil mix and go from there. If you have already planted then just use this as a trial run. If you haven't already I would just use some good potting soil (MG is fine if that's all you have) but I would use some jiffy soil without nutes and a coco or perlite (for drainage not moisture retention you don't want moisture retention) mixture and then you can control your nutes and those don't have to be fancy either. A generic all purpose will work wonders.

I am not an out door guy but the principles are the same.
Maybe an out door guy has better suggestions then me.
Remember, these are just weeds. They don't need anything canna specific or fancy.


If you just water them they will live. If you feed them they will go crazy.

actually this isn't true, mushroom compost is the substrate used to grow mushrooms in commercial greenhouses after it has been broken down by the mushroom mycelium. its usualy a mixture of Straw, Rye flower and Gypsum which has been digested by the mushrooms. after its no longer useable they let it degrade for around 12 months outdoors and then bag it and sell it.

essentially, it has all of the vital nutrients a living organism needs to live, Plus many beneficial microbes. when mixed properly it can be VERY beneficial with little fertilization.

Maybe the stuff you buy in the store... I am just going by what the mushroom farm in the town I used to live in used. Nothing but straw..but this farm might had not been typical.

Drainage is not something i haveto worry about. I live in south New Jersey and the soil here is very sandy and acidic. The soil drains very easily. Actually it drains a little too fast so i give them more water. But in a week im going to start using a 10/10/10 fertilzer on them not too much though. Oh and so far they are all growing at a relatively equal rate. I don't see why anyone is hating on either of these soils. It's only my first time growing im not trying to get the largest yield the world has ever seen. I just want an average grow hahaha hence the name.

That's they ay to do it...... JUst do it. You will see works best for your enviro. IF your draining well I don't think to much is possible. Just keep 'em watered and you be glad it's draining.
Do go to heavy on the nutes you will do just fine without much. Just feed them if they need it. It's not indoor or hydro there will be plenty of food in the ground.

What fertilizer should i buy though? Like one that you can find at almost any gardenig store? Organic of course.

I never use organic so I wouldn't know the answer to that. I would use jack classic/petes.

lowes and home depot have lots of organic nutes that you can add to soil or use on plants that are already growing. i reccomend miracle gro organic and espoma products.

okay i wanna use organic cuz i hear better reviews about the taste.

just make sure that if you start off with organics make sure not to use any synthetic nutes because it kill the beneficial organism in the soil

everyone hates on miracle grow because they are overly nute happy and overdose the crap out of the plants, MG isnt the greatest stuff out but if u are on a tight budget and u use half doses and every 3rd water use only water it will be fine.... u can nuke a plant with anything and in this case less is more.
