Multiple root systems?

I had a kind of weird idea, I might have to diagram it to make sense of it, but here goes:
If I top a plant, then put root gel/powder what have you, on the top part, and bend it over and stick it in the dirt, would it grow roots? Obviously I'm gonna take more care in doing this than just chop, gel and push into dirt. I was thinking that, because on my trumpet vine, I can literally smash the vines into the ground, and then a few days later they take root and grow like a bridge from the main part, then the part in the ground gets roots, then the part that is still sticking out grows big. I would think that having 2 root systems would mean the middle part would get very nutrient fed, and would grow big, and since the whole plant was horizontal, I would think the branches would get massive. I will be trying something like this next OD season, but I was wondering if anyone else had tried something like that or if it was even a good idea.

They will root again and you can have a big U shaped plant. I've done it in a test once but I never really let it grow out. If I could grow outdoors I would definitely have given this more of a try but I didn't have the room to keep it around indoors.

In theory you could do this multiple times if you mixed it with mainlining. Have a main root mass in the middle and have 4 others spread out. Would make for a very interesting grow. Please document when you do this.

How many nodes between the first root mass and the new one(s) would you plan on having?

Our precious plant is one of thousands that roots very easily, each node which comes into contact with the soil will develop roots. Marijuana can be air layer, taken in cuttings, done like you said. Good luck with your growing and learning.

ok real cool. I was hoping it would be easy. I am working on finding a location and getting it clean for my winter ID grow, and in Jan. I will begin getting things ready for OD, I will definately do this, and will post some pics, and hopefully I can get one or two of them going outdoors (not sure how hard they will transplant...)

So everyone knows, I will be doing a grow journal, the link is in my sig. I will have pics of this monster, and various others I want to try doing. my buddy tells me that they might suffer from mold, so I will have to keep an eye out! Does anyone have any 2 cents on what I should try running, here are my choices:

Double White Cheese
Afghan/Hindu Kush (purple pheno)
AHK (Green pheno)
Molokai Kush #1 (big pheno)
MK#2 (short, frostier pheno)
Wild Thai
WW
Blue Thai
Black Cheese

All of these were somewhat randomly crossed with 2 double white cheese, 1 wild thai, and 1 black russian male, so the DWC is going to be the most dom. male genes, the 2 plants were #1: slightly shorter and bushy, and slightly taller and bushy. I will be wetting the beans here in probably a week or two while I wait for my light

Afghan/Hindu mom x double white cheese. The two long branches on the bottom are gonna get hit with root powder when they stretch enough. Triple root system going outdoors. Should be good

Hi Guys,
Being an old timer...I've seen this topic arise several times over the years. I've never actually seen photos of anyone doing it though.

On a different but related subject, and since this is sort of an odd idea thread. There have been people who grow in a dual pot system with the pot split down the middle...dirt on one side and hydro in the other. The idea is that the plant gets the stability, survivability, and flavor of dirt along with the rapid growth of hydro.

So this double root system you're talking about could be even more interesting if one end is in dirt and the other end is hydro. Even if it's just a Hempy.

One final question...from a legal perspective, would this be one plant or two?
Cheers,
JD

That sir is a very interesting idea. Firstly the one I can answer. Since it is only one plant system and not two separate plants I would assume it counts as one plant, since you can graft several other strains onto a plant and have it be only one plant. Now the hydro and soil.... that sounds fun. Wasn't thinking that way at all but sounds like a good experiment.

I will be posting pics as the plant gets larger. She has the bottom two branches at almost long enough. I want them to be long enough to where I can bend them but not break them off. Should be a couple more day s or so1392267995175.jpg
The two branches extend beyond the edges of the pic.

One plant.

Same thing with clones for those who live in med states with limits, a simple genetic test will show that all your clones are one plant. Ask the scientist under oath if he can tell how many different oplants were grown based on the genetic samples alone.
