Moving hydroponics

So I currently sprouting seedlings in a soil medium but am entertaining the idea of using hydroponics just to experiment and learn. I am a college student and doing this in my apartment. The primary question I have is about my moving. I know hydroponics need chronic checking and monitering of pH and ppm and have done all such research.

But with christmas break coming up I am curious how I would move such a setup. Logic would think if i unplugged the air pump and the airstone was no longer spitting out bubbles then the roots would drown. It would only need to be unplugged for 3-4hrs max for the trip home. Is this something that would kill the plant? Because similar questions could arise from simple power outages, as to say what would happen if the power was out all night and the roots just sat in the medium?

Thanks

A few hours wouldnt be a problem cause the water still has oxygen in it even though the bubbles stopped. If they had to sit over night it's better to drain the medium and have them sit in nothing and water manually then have them sit in the medium.

So if it were to be an overnight/extended ordeal it would be better to simply drain the res of the nute solution, water your plants and pack up, and then replace the plants in the nute solution when you reach your destination?

In your situation 2-4 hours should really harm it but it would be better to have them constantly air-ated.
If your problem is not having enough air for transporting them you could try, plugging your airstone into your car outlet temporarly, or get a battery chargable pump for temporary uses.

Are you suggesting that as a solution rather then having them sit in the solution for the hours? Could I also not just have the roots sitting in air until i can replace them in the slution?

that would be fine as well. Roots love a little oxygen bath. In fact it is healthy for roots to get a dose of oxygen!

Yes I would drain them then move. If your like me a 2-4 hr move always takes longer. So I would save some of the nutes in a jug just so when it dose take longer you don't stress out just top feed alittle and keep doing what your doing. Don't need to take short cuts with setup just cuz your in a rush. When ready clean and give freash nutes.

My grow lost power for almost 12 hours recently and the plants made it just fine. I'd drain it though. You don't want to give your car a nuts bath if there's a spill.
