Moved to new house - Can cops bust me for old grow room?

I have moved to a new house, and had a grow room at my old house. This was a special room built only for growing and no doubt has THC all over the walls, and likely some small fragments of herb still in the insulation and such. Can cops bust me for this, or do they need actual plants present?

I hope this isn't a stupid question, as this room couldn't possibly be for anything else, and it has me concerned.

I currently own this home, and am about to sell it. The room is secret, and specially constructed with mellamine walls, ventilation, and electrical ran in a way that its obvious what this room is for.

Any real advice would be appreciated. Preferably from someone not just guessing or speculating. :)

As long as there is no weed plants you can't get in trouble for having a reflective room that's wired with electricity in your house......that's your old tanning room......

You can get into trouble if it has ANY trace of herb obviously.....personally I would do a bit of reno and make it a den or computer room. Will add value in the long run and you will be able to sleep at night.

im sure it depends on frame of mind on the realtor and buyer

can bring on suspicion to look into whut you are doing now
i doubt they would have evadence to support a bust

if i had time i would have cleaned it up an tour it down
if that worried

No GREEN...No Case. Period. If you are planning on selling you should use the hidden room as a selling feature. Plenty of growers out there looking for that kind of start.

Good Luck.

Just get it up and running and plant some tomatoes and other crops and call it a functioning green house for self sufficient individuals who like to grow veggies and flowers....plain and simple....and besides if they want they might be a gardening enthusiest...have it advertised that way!

Logically it seems they cant bust a person for cultivation without actual plants for evidence. I would assume the only thing they could possibly get us for would be posession, which is decriminalized in that state. Is there any kind of charge for having a room that was obviously used for cultivationk?

The room was built in the attic, and there are definitely small fragments of stuff that cant be removed without tearing everything out entirely, which would be a huge undertaking. As for watching me now, I am in another state with extremely strict laws, and no longer even smoke. Waiting to move in a year or so before rwsuming anything.

The room is secret, and specially constructed ... :)
I know you think it looks secret, I mean is the door concealed more than the average hole going into a lot of attics? Who could fault you for having attic ventilation? If Mom, Pop and young Timmy bought the house, would they think the room was strange enough to call the police and say....what would they say? If somebody that grew dope bought it would they say anything? If by the slimmest chance the police did come to the house and see the room, I doubt they would initiate an investigation. But then again, what's your peace of mind worth? I would make it look less like a grow room (in my mind), run the vacumn, maybe throw some paint on it. No money and not much time involved. You probably could have had that done already today. If all else fails, deny, deny, deny.

You cannot be busted so to speak..... But it can raise the interest of the athorities, if someone bring this to their attention.
Next, you have an unmarked, parked at the end of your street. And someone digging through your trash on trash day looking for grow evidence. Potting soil bags, perilite piles, used soil, that keys a dope dog, exspecially if this material still contains roots!
The detective then takes that to a judge, the judge either issues a warrant, or says bring me more, in which case, the detective is outside your house recording all that is said in the imediate facinity of your cell phone, as this becomes now, a listening device, that all they have to do is activate, no warrant necissary. look at your contract with your provider! It's in the patriot act to allow this type of "Survalaince" to occure. Now they will get the warrant. And now yes you can be busted. Why would you leave evidence against you behind? Do you not have a crime stoppers in your area? People are gready alll the next tenant see's is $1000.00 reward if it leads to an arrest. Here is how its done.https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/623029-425-00-transition-mylar-solid.html
This way you can dissasemble the grow room in a snap, and haul it with you to the next location for re-assembly.
Good luck with this, can you still get in and clean it up? Or is there a chance someone has already seen it?

Why the fuck wouldn't you clean the room with boiling water and bleach, paint it, and make sure there was no trace?! Wake Up.

totally agree, atleast clean it up good, then you can always claim you where growing tomatoes or even better claim it was there when you moved in and you just left it and used it to store junk etc.

p.s.

I hope the Cop`s have better thing to do then going around to inspect old "grow" rooms for traces of herbs and try to run a case with out any real proof of anything ..

The room cost me about $3k to put together, with custom entry, and ventilation far beyond anything normal. It would require tearing my ceiling out to disassemble the room. There is no doubt that this is not a man cave or computer room.. ;)

My real concern is what can be done from a law enforcement perspective if this room is discovered in conjunction with small fragments of herb. When I made this room I had no intention of ever moving, but life is funny sometimes. 10 years later I am now on the other side of the country.

Thanks for all the constructive feedback so far. Much appreciated.

You need to check your state law on the definition of marijuana. That will tell you if worry is warranted. Check out the different meaning for states and you'll see what I mean. California was only considering sativa strains as punishable marijuana offenses. South Dakota has a stipulation in the law that if its ground or crushed in a certain way it's ok. Some states allow the oils. Don't be lazy though. Clean that shit up. Especially if you're trying sell it.

Very good info melungeonman, thank you.

I am flying back this weekend to complete the clean up, and was curiuos how far I need to go with it. Just a coat of paint, or complete destruction of the room. Sounds like somewhere in between. Will also try to make it look like a legal indoor garden by leaving some vegetable seed packets, and other legal grow things laying around inconspicuously. My neighbors saw me hydro growing various vegetables outside over the years, and knew I was a health nut. :)

For one, what if a narc happens to be in the market for a house. Now you may just have them looking at your new home. Secondly, thinking only about trying to sell a house in today's market and not about getting busted, if it is clear what it was used for, it may scare off buyers. Most people wouldn't want to buy a house where the last owner was a drug dealer (be that real or perceived) because of who they think may come knocking in the middle of the night.

I would advertise it as a $3k greenhouse...big money in prepping communties and for anyone who might be growing stuff of their own...lol

Very good info all around, and much appreciated. Although common sense tells me they would need the plants in place to bust a person for cultivation, the cause for alarm was still a concern with the way some cops and states can be overly dickish and do stuff that defies logic and belief.

Many thanks to all who took the time to post and help a brother out. :)

I really think you're good man. If you were moving into a house on the same block or something it might worry me a bit. But if you're moving that far away, they won't give two shits about you now. They can't do shit about a "possible" old grow site. Just my opinion man, hope all works out well!!
