i wanna keep 2 or 3 mother under a 4bulb HO t5. im sure its good enough to veg them in my 5ft long 1.5 ft wide 3ft high tent
i wanna keep the moms for at least 6 months(ill be veggin 4 other seeds with em the first month then flower those. then take 4-6 clones & veg em 1 month then choose 4 to flower)
they can get a little more than 2 ft tall.
but ill only need to take 2-3 clones from them
should i use 1 or 3 gallon pots ??

If your keeping it around for a while, i'd go with the bigger pot. Maybe do some LST or topping, or both.

3 gallon will be bare minimum and after that your going to have to go to at least 5 gallons to flower in. typically you want 1 gallon for every month you plan on having it alive and in my experiences even thats not enough. i got 3 month old plants in 3 gallon pots right now and theirs tons of roots popping out the holes in the bottom.

ya man just go straight to the 5 with em...i dont even play around with any other sizes goes straight from the party cup to the 5 gallon...and the plant wont be under 2 ft in my experience if you try to control size by leaving the plant in a tiny container it will just start having problems after a while and overall health will drop best thing to do is go 5 gallon and train them hardcore to try and keep height down ...idk man 6 months is quite a while they would quite large in my care lol

six months needed get at least 5 gal. leaning a lot towards the air pot now and would be great for that. Might be able to use a 3 gal in a pinch but you will need to water more often.

I'd use one of my 6-quart pots and be sure to top/FIM them early and often. To keep plants
that short you will need to control the height and topping is the way to go.

Good luck, BigSteve.

I know this is an old thread but what I like to do is grow a mother plant, take all the cuttings for a current grow, plus an extra. Then I usually will flower the mother plant, and while the 8 weeks go by flowering the clones you took from the original mother plant, I grow the extra clone into a new mother plant. Keeps the plants manageable and smaller and new and fresher. Only need a one gallon pot with this method and by the time you harvest, your new cloned mother plant will be 2 months old and ready for you to take as many cuttings as you need. Then repeat.

i've heard the taking clones from clones many times will reduce potency is this not true?

That's not true, maybe after 50 years of constantly cloning and using infected clones the phenotype could change slightly, but the genes will always be the same as the mother, only human error can change the outcome of a clone

how many clones do you feel you could take off of a 2 month old clone? because i may start to do this as space is an issue with a mother for me :D

This is another method, reveg clones are nice too, seems the nodes come out a lot tighter

Just top the clone as it grows so it creates multiple tops, here's what topping once will do, it'll create a bunch of tops, then top those, and you'll be all set
