Most efficient way to pheno hunt.

I have been growing for a year and a half now and I want to find a strain that has it all. What do you guys think is the best way to pheno hunt? I am trying out Critical Kush right now in four five gallon DWC buckets. Here is what I have planned right now.

  • Setup I have
    • 4x4' tent
    • 600w HID
  • Growing media I want to use
    • 30/70 perlite soil mix in 9x3 gal smart pots
  • Strain I want to get
    • 9xOG kush from Dinafem or 9xwhite widow from Dinafem
  • Nutrients
    • MEGACROP
    • Great white bennies

I have already tried; C99, Blue mystic, OG kush from HSO, Liberty haze, Grapefruit and blue dream.
Any recommendation or tips for pheno hunting?

I'd definitely stay well away from feminized seeds for breeding. Period.
A "little" genetic variety in strains is a great thing for phenotype hunting.

May i suggest "Black Widow" from mrnice seeds, if your after White Widow.
To cut a long story short. If you want the White Widow from the 90's, Shantibaba would have to be my first choice.
There's a lot of history, tug of war, and lies about this strain.
Imho the closest you'll find will be Shanti's seeds at Mr nice seeds.
He apparently still has some of his parent plants from his time at ghsc.

Id try Black Widow.
Every strain is sold as regular photo too.
I cant say i have purchased seeds online. But mrnice would definitely be one of my first choices.

Tbh,
I think the better question is, why do you want to pheno hunt?
If its to produce seeds. Buy regular seeds. Period.
If its to take clones for cash crops. Fuck it, buy some feminized, and take your pic.

I like the idea of having a mother plant and taking clones at my convenience. I have done it in the past and it works great for my setup.
Well if you have no intention of ever seedling any of the pheno's, buy feminized and choose a mum.
Then clone away.

:peace:

P.S.
I havn't ever used feminized seeds, so take what i say with a grain of salt.
Personally i'd choose regular every single time regardless. Only downside is they're a little more work. Only disadvantage really.

With feminized seeds available everywhere I see starting new plants as being what you describe cloning to be- just pop a new bean whenever you want! You can do small grows of many different strains very easily. In my opinion the best strain is a variety of strains. Blueberry for flavor gorilla glue to knock your socks off.

How are you phenom hunting with only one tent? Ideally you’ll want a second tent, one to flower one to veg. I’d use smaller pots. As soon as the plants are big enough make clones. Then flower out the clones in SOG and keep the stock in veg. When the stock gets to big take more clones and give away the bigger plants to save room.
