So I'm looking into lights online, our plan has somehow just turned upside down so I've no clue what's happening now, but I'm looking online at lights and the cfls are cheap but I didn't think you could use them for flowering; can you get them in the different spectrum things? I thought I knew what I wanted, then I went on ebay....
Happens everytime I shop online! You can flower with cfls. The problems with them for flowering is they do not penetrate canopy well and for the 11 plants you have you will need a serious amount of them . There is a big difference in yield between CFL and HPS CFL buds tend to be very light and airy. Although it is entirely possible to finish a plant out with Cfls and end with amazing product cola size lack greatly compared to flowering with HID lighting. In the vegitative stage a plant will use more of a range in the high spectrum. Simulating summertime when the sun in high in the sky. The daylight cfls come in the 6500k spectrum and are great for vegitative growth. In flower a plant will use more of the lower end of the spectrum simulating fall and th sun at more of an angle to the earth throwing down different spectrums of light. For flowering you would want to swith most of your cfls to the 2700k bulbs but I do agree with keeping a couple 6500k bulbs mixed in. Like I said for your 11 plants hypothetically speaking if you had all females you would need in the end about 6 cfls per plant to really make it worth the effort.

Ok we've got one 600w HPS so could I just supplement that with cfls? Although I'm thinking I might just get another the same and have the two of them and the t5, would this be OK?
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=111821006772&alt=web

Also, I'm keeping my fingers crossed they should all be female as they're cuttings, and surely nobody would take cuttings from a male??
I'm looking at tents and have no clue what size I should be looking for, how much space do I need to plan for each plant? I need a tent big enough for at least 9, then I suppose I could leave 2 in the closet. Oh, but that's a whole different dilemma with the lights!

I recently popped white widow seeds, and am currently waiting (impaciently) for them to get big enough to clone and sex. I grew this strain back in 2000 and loved it, as did everyone who tried it, but alas I lost it. I remember it being a finiky feeder in rockwoll. I'm growing in Cana coco with Cana nutrients this time. Should be interesting. Look forward to seeing how your grow goes :)
Here is a pic of a couple of ladies on my babies.

Aww they're so cute when they're tiny!
So you're doing pretty much the same as me then, that's good to know. I got a load of weed given yesterday from the dude who got us the cuttings though and it's just as awful as I remember it! I really don't wanna grow that shit so I'm really hoping it's something he's doing with it and not just all the plant is capable of, cos it's really awful flaky dry crap with no smell, and that's not how I think of white widow! He was completely baffled when we told him we'd disregarded his advice about drenching the plants twice a day with nutes, and could not understand how my plants were looking good the way I'm doing it!
Or were looking good anyway. The girls have a bit of a droop on today, hope it's nothing to worry about. They've had another small feed this morning and the light goes off at 12 so I'll see how they're looking tonight when it comes on again.
I've picked my tent, getting a 2.4m x 1.2m x 2m hopefully, we could probably have made do with the next size down but it ended up being the same price for the bigger one, so I'll order that on Tuesday and once it's up I can get the girls repotted. They're not desperate yet, just starting to see root at the bottom of one or two pots.

Sounds like he is having issues with everything. Love your girls (not too death) and they will love you back. Learn all you can about nutrients, ph, water, and co2. I've been doing this for over 15 years, and I never quit learning!

So we've been thinking, rather than spend £100 on a tent, I've got a spare bedroom there. My OH reckons we can black out the window and build a kind of partition in the back room lined with blackout paper on one side and reflective sheeting on the inside. I think they're might be a way of doing it in there that's easier than drilling wooden beams into the ceiling, I just haven't figured out what it is yet! I'd really appreciate if you lot could give us the pros/cons as you see them?
I was leaning towards a tent, but then you're looking at more money for exhausts and all that whereas in the back room they're gonna have more space and surely the atmosphere is going to be easier to stay on top of, temperature and all that, without a big tent around them? There's gonna be more air flow, for a start? Any thoughts much appreciated.... :peace:

Do the Backroom! A friend and I used tents for our veg room, and we had nothing but troubles keeping the environment in check. It's much easier and cheaper to build your own room to suite your needs. My room is 11'x8' with a 7' ceiling. It costed me $200 to remodel it for a 2k system. I used panda film over the walls (plastic that is white on one side and black on the other). If you are running co2 you'll need to invest in ac and dehumidifier. You will need these with a tent anyway. Not running co2, then a simple intake and exhaust vent with a couple fans circulating air in the room will be fine. Here are a couple pics of what I just set up.

Looking good! What lights are you using and how many plants have you got? Just tell me everything lol :bigjoint:

Lol :)
Here is the room specs.
11'x8' with a seven foot ceiling.
2- 1k solistec matrix programmable de ballasts
2- hortilux hps bulbs
2- subsystems 30" x40" low profile air-cooled hoods with 8" ducting
1- vortex exhaust fan
1- ideal air 12,000 BTU greenhouse AC (doesn't use air from the room so I don't lose co2)
1- GE 70 pint dehumidifier
8- 15 gallon smartpots 40 liters canna coco each
1- 50 Pound co2 tank with regulator
1- autopiolet master greenhouse control with co2 monitor/controller (just ordered)
55 gallon food grade res with a mondi 1/2hp pump
1- active air air pump running three large airstones
1- 10'x100' roll panda film
1- homade screen 52" x96"
8- querkle babies for this grow (WW will be next round.
The room is totally sealed and environmentally controlled, so no intake or exhaust. This allows me full control of their environment. The whole setup with construction, misc fastners/and whatnot was a little under $6k. If I didn't live in such a desolate area, I could have save a few bucks on some stuff, but I had to bite the bullet and order most everything from Amazon and eBay.
This setup will comfortably run 8k watts without having to upgrade the environmental stuff (I can't do it in this room, to small, but my second room is blazing 5k and doing fine)

Impressive! Especially next to my piecemeal, salvage yard grow room lol!

So we've got the room set up, it really is improvised but still fucking brilliant, I was impressed when they'd finished. I'm gonna repot tonight when I've scrubbed out the big pots and found the bloody plug socket adaptor so I can get the lights on one timer. It's all looking good so far. I've been looking at co2 bags, they have some sort of fungus in that exhales co2 instead of oxygen? Are they any good or a cheap gimmick? I can't afford a proper new but thought they looked like a decent option, if they're any good.

I used them a few years back, in a smaller room. They did bring the co2 up, and if I remember right they were affordable as well. As far as piece meal goes, I know just where you're at. I got my start with a kiddie swimming pool and a 15 year old magnetic hps ballast. Just takes a little patience and time, youll grow to love it :)

Sorry to bomb your thread, but I had another thought on co2. If I remember right the bags were almost $30 US, and we used a lot of them. One bag kept a 4x8 tent at around 600ppm I think we used three bags to keep it at 1500 ppm, and we had to change them out monthly. When I did a cost comparison it ended up being cheaper to lease a tank and buy a regulator. If funds are tight, bags are the way to go. If you got a little extra spending cash, co2tank/regulator is the way to go. Much more control, which is very important.

I'm definitely going to get a couple of those, they're £13 so if there's any chance they could benefit the girls I can splash out on a couple!
Pictures are coming soon, it really is very basic but they all look happy enough, which is what matters.
