Gday one & all ,
have an issue been plaguing me for years , every cycle in the first 3-4 weeks after taking cuttings the surface of the rockwool mosses over ; other than blocking the light to the median surface I've been unsuccessful in stopping this . Other than slow starting my cuttings are always healthy ! Keep on Puffin

The moss spores are coming from somewhere. Clean up your space.
Cheers,
It has been suggested it is in the wool straight from the bag if this was the case do you know of any organic sterilization methods / or too high in nitrogens too soon ?

If the cubes are contaminated, throw them away. Its going to be an uphill battle trying to kill one plant and not killing another.

Thanks for the suggestions ,
blocking the light from the top of the wool does stop it , what concerns me is that it happens in the first place. Everything is clean & i already use microbial additives. Humidity is 45-60 .

Cover it and u never let it develop, it's the lights effect on the wet nutrients, if you pour nutrients on anything and leave it in the light long enough it will start to get algae. Just cover it up, if ur freaking out about cleanliness use some h2o2 in ur water but it'l kill your bennies. Hope to help

Gday Blue brother ,
I reckon your spot on , I'd noticed it was starting almost straight after starting nutrients .
I usually only use a hormone foliage spray for the first 10-14 days seems to help heaps in forming root bulk and of course then heaps bigger & better buds .
Cheers mate appreciate your help and advice.

I've switched to brewing ewc and great white tea and feeding every 3rd watering instead of using h2o2. Alls working well, no sign of algae better growth rates too. Peace bro

Boiling water from a kettle, put the cubes in the sink, and carefully let boiling water through them, it tends to soften them up a little but with practise it's a n effective way of sterilizing rockwool cubes before use, once the 1" cubes go onto the 3" try to keep a fan on them whilst rooting out the 3" to help keep the tops dry. Then once in the hydro system of your choice don't let light get to them.

It is a bloody pest, and even doing all of the above I still get it once in a blue moon.

thanks forbthe imput ive learnt now that light is the major problem, what I've been doing is cutting a pieace of 75% shade cloth & covering the wool ( i use bulk premium floc haven't tried the prefab wol products i start my cuttings in peat moss , no need to increase ph this way . I'll leave it there & hope this reply makes some sense as i can't seebhat I'm writing (bloody crap mobile)

I've had this problem multiple times and I just use a mild water/ bleach solution to wipe the top of block with then cover them.

do as everybody has said, cover them from day one.
