i've read of how 1 watt can equal 1 gram of bud. would it be more benificial to have stronger lights in flowering stage, rather than veg. to get more bud?

yes! light in veg is more or less to just get them to the height you want and for training purposes. i use a 216w t-5 in veg and 2 400w hps in flower. the more energy you can send to the leaves, the more energy is put into the buds. there is still a debate on how much energy the plant can use and for how long. but yes alot of people double the light in flower.

Yes it would be more benefical to have stronger lights for flower. 1 watt per gram you will only get if you have optimum settings. Not even the best growers get 1g per watt easily. Most people will get 1/4 to 1/2 gram per watt. If you have the money and space I would use HPS lights for flower and veg but you can use high powered cfls or more expensive MH or HID lights for veg. The lights isnt the most important thing to look at when you grow. Its everything else.... There are alot of factors that affect how much you yeild. If you use cfl's keep them acouple inches away from the plants or they will stretch. As for HPS, MH , and HID, you need to keep them farther away ( almost 12 inches) so they do not burn your plants. You have alot more to think about then lighting when wondering how much you will yeild in your grow.

more light in bloom if I had to pick, but I believe for good note length and branching grow/bloom should be equill

i'm planning on growing 4 plants. currently i have 10 23w CFL 6400k lights for flowering. i was thinking about getting 4 125w 2400k CFLs for flowering. replacing the 4 6400k ones with the more powerful ones for flowering. so i would have 6 23w 6400k and 4 125w 2400k during flowering. so that would total 230w for veg, and 638w for flowering.

is this a good wattage to work with and would the 4 flowering bulbs be worth the 90 quid investment? also would running 6400k lights along side, during flowering be of any use?

If I had to choose it would be more light in flower for sure. I look at it like this..in veg it's like hughesresearch said, you want to get to a certain size, it's really up to you. If you don't have the lumens to get them there, you can always just let them veg longer. In bloom, it's more or less on a fixed schedule, driven by genetics. So you want as many lumens as possible during that 8 or 10 or whatever weeks.

def more light in flower, otherwise your canopy will be deeper through veg and it won't bulk up to good buds with lower light in flower
