More smaller plants / less bigger plants ?

Example: Vegging for 10 weeks and flowering for 9 weeks = finishing with 4 plants per 1kW and yielding X amount of bud.

Is it possible to yield the same amount of bud IN LESS VEGGING TIME by having more smaller plants per 1 kW of light?

If yes, then how much vegging time would be reduced to get same results?

Ultimate question: Is there a difference in a long run or not?

Vegging really big plants isnt ideal imho. 6-8wks in veg then to flower. I get the same yield big or smaller

there are two good ways to figure out yield.
1. Grams per watt
2. Grams per sq ft.

In terms of grams per watt, .5 grams per watt is a good average yield. Yielding just over a pound per 1000 watts of light. So increasing light will yield more.

Next is grams per sq ft. Basically how much can be produced in a given area. This is where your question comes in. It doesn't really matter weather you have 1 big plant or 20 small ones. If the area the being filled is the same.

I have tried this in many different configurations.

Bottom line is 1 plant grown over three months to fill the 4x8 canopy will produce the same amount that the 32 plants grown for 4 weeks.

The only reason to grow less is if you are trying to be legal. I'm in the Oregon medical marijuana program and there are plant number restrictions.

So the answer to your question is yes. The time depends on the amount of plants. 32 plants will make a full canopy in one month of late veg. ( not including cloning/rooting or early veg) Total time cut to flower 2 months.

But if vegging big plants isn't ideal, then there has to be some kind of difference compared to smaller plants. What is the difference?

I use 5 gallon pots so its ideal to keep them short and bushy. Outdoors I let them go wild, they have plenty of room to spread out I can fit 4 -5g pots under 1000w.
