was wondering with CFLs is it better to have loads of 20w bulbs at different heights and stuff say 8bulbs. Or one 125w bulb at the top and maybe 2 20w at the side?
the 125w one would be a lot less work involved but if the extra bulbs made a difference then that could be done?

multiple 27 watt bulbs will give you more lumens per watt, in my room i use 2 85w cfls and 8 27w cfls with 8 t8 tubes, my room is 2x3x6 so heat can be an issue but if you have the funds jam as many lights in there as possible, i have enough light that i dont have to worry about lst-ing my plants or topping them...

more is always better. But like ^^ said be careful adding to many bulbs and overheating your grow area...
