more or less watts in veg?

Put this question on a different thread and got no help, gonna try again here. I have a 1.2x1.2 tent with 6 clones. I was told today that I would be better off vegging with 400w rather than the 600w I'm using. Is this true?

It should be true to some extent. You dont need the penetration that a 600w provides when vegging, but certainly when flowering.

I have both the 400w and 600w hanging ready for flower as I was planning on using both for flower but my temps are at 29.4c so I reckon I'm gonna have to stick to a 600w flower. I switch them to 12/12 at 18inch and I want to get there fast,to me that means leaving it to veg under the 600w. I respect the info I was given as the guys the one who taught me,he been growing 19year and you gotta respect that. My temperture is fine at what it is though ain't it?

i think the "norm" is using the smaller light to veg , but that is unessacary. it wont help to use a smaller lamp unless you have too much light or your temps are too high. stick to the 6.

Agreed. From everything I have ever heard, read, etc. it's not going to make much difference. Might save a little on electricity, but not enough to matter probably.

50 to 75 watts a square foot is required for optimal growth as a general rule. That being said I am closer to 100 watt per square foot and believe the more the better IMHO

Ok but the temp at 29.5c is fine. I did put on the 400w and it only when down 1c so I believe I had it right with the 600w. We live and learn!

When I first started, I used daylight bulbs in a regular 4' fluorescent fixture. As far as the veg stage, I can't really tell a difference. Flowering is a whole different story of course. lol
