yeah i've thrown away my share this year too... probably 4-6oz.
high humidity and unclean environment. changed my entire environment since then.
I've personally found fabric pots indoors to bump up the humidity. Also fighting with mold down on the pots themselves. I ended up chucking them and snagging some Spin Out pots. No problems since then for me. I had a whole SoG get hit. It made for one hell of an Iso run though!
Thanks for the info guys it makes me feel a little better other people have shared my pain!
I've chucked out loads of moldy buds. I've actually shifted to longer flowering plants because 8 weekers fatten up when temps are in the 70s and humidity is in the 70s - 90s. I'd say on a good outdoor harvest I've thrown away a good 20% of whatever got chopped due to mold and or budrot. We're talking a 5 gallon bucket almost full of nugs. I hope that helps lol.
But don't let it hit you too hard OP. Now you know what NOT to do. That's honestly more important than knowing what TO do.
Drying and getting in the cure range is tricky business. Some nugs are fatter/denser than others. So they retain more moisture than others. So when they're all chucked in jars or whatever the moisture is trapped and redistributes. Then the overall RH in the entire jar changes in all the product. It evens it all out. The trick is to hit a consistent RH in ALL of the product. Monitor it up until you do so. I've seen it change very slowly over a day and go up over the cure range and dip into the danger zone in a 48 hour period.
Also take the RH in the area when you're burping your jars into consideration. You can get your buds into the perfect cure range. Pop your jars open for an hour. If the RH in the area is a lot higher than your buds it could do more harm than good. Just a 2% change could take your buds and kick them out of the area that's inhospitable for mold growth into an area where it can start. So your environment when burping your jars is just as important as inside of your jars before you even open them. The same goes for even opening your jars after you've cured them to snag buds to smoke.
Bovedas are a good little insurance policy for that. Although if they're packed full of moisture themselves they won't absorb anymore inside of your jars when you close them in that situation. They can only hold so much.
