depend on what type of hydro setup you talking 'bout
something that uses water pumps, sprayer, drippers or fogers .....no

but for dwc or himpy i see no problem

A friend of mine used it in his DWC with hydroton and a top feeder... He got root rot from it.. I was surprised... He had air stones and everything in there, it just made the roots go brown and slimy...:-(

could have also been somthing else many things cause root rot
never herd of molasses being one of them, maybe he used the wrong type

Molasses doesn't seem to be a problem in my aeroponic/DWC set-up. I use the 360 degree red emitters found in cloning machines. I'll only add the molasses and fresh water to the flushing stage of my grow (last two weeks). Here's what I do: 1Tbl spoon of molasses per galon of water. I have an 8 gallon res. per growing unit. So, I put 8 Tbl spoons of molasses in a galon jug and fill with hot water. SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE!! When I see that the molasses has completely dissolved into the solution I'll transfer to my res.
I've never (knock wood) had a problem with root rot or a fermenting res. Also, I change the res. EVERY week and clean emitters after every grow cycle.
--Good luck!! and post back on what you decide....

I have never been able to run molasis in my hydroset ups from flood drain to DWC. I always get slimy roots regardless of rez temps and oxygen levels. Takes a week to two weeks for the slim to kick in for me. I could be doing something wrong

It will not work I asked the same question to AlBFuct and he said in hydroponics its worthless ill try and find the thread. Molasses only works in soil applications.

I use Brer and/or Grandma's. Definitely UNSULPHERED. I'm growing ak-47 at the moment and as you know, it's a pretty big yielder on its own, but the gains I've found are pretty good (bigger than usual). And resin/crystal production is frosty!! Taste is r-e-e-e-e-a-l-l-y smooth and sweet too!
Also bro, you have to take into consideration that this is what has been working FOR ME. I'd feel terrible if you used my way of flushing and completely "flush" your grow down the pooper!! Ya know?
By the way, what kind of set-up are you running....details please:)

--As a side note to mutefruit: Crazy thing about the molasses... It smelled like molasses in the res,. I even dipped my finger in for a taste!! Mmmmmm sweet! Anyway, at the end of week 7, before changing the res., I dipped my finger for another taste.....NO SWEET!! There was just water left. The molasses had to have gone somewhere....Those nasty frosties maybe;)

molasses is raw sugar. Fsugar to bacteria is like feeding meth to a person. even hydro nutrients cnatin very low levels of bacteria as the bacteria is air born as well as present in wind blown dust/dirt. The bacteria will multiply very quickly if fed sugar. Bacteria and enzymes are desirable only in organic nutrients and/or soil grows not chemical nutrient grows. The main advantage of chemical nutrients growing is constantly readily available nutrients can be provided in a nearly solution. Not all chenical nutrient growers use chlorox to maintain low levels of bacteria and enzymes,

hate to burst your bubble Dude but: The bacteria broke the molasses down to other more basic chemical compounds. Duh! The molasses fed the bacteria not the plants dude.

I use Molasses in a Ebb-Flow bucket setup. 2 of my buddies use Ebb-flow table setups with molasses as well. No issues. We flush our nute reservoirs every 2 weeks so the stink doesn't build up.

My first grow. I was about 5 weeks into flowering, drip system, added about 1 tbs per gallon grandma's molasses and in 2 days, 2/3rds of my plants were wiped out, looked like root rot. I think I set up for the perfect storm. The slope of my drainage was probably not steep enough and for several days before I added the molasses, I forgot to add my daily dose of h2o2. I flushed the plants, then sterilized everything, dipped the surviving plants in a stronger h2o2 bath and bought some expensive Root Excelurator which is suppose to be the bomb. Cross my fingers that I have saved the last few plants but I will think twice before adding molasses to my res again.
