Modern day rap vs 90s rap

Idk how many people on here even listen to rap let alone r up to date on it, but if yu haven't heard modern day rappers yu aren't missin much. I cud go on nd on wit a list of rappers who I can't stand. Wen I say this I don't jus mean my personal preference in songs, but literally hav no talent at all. I wud be here all day namin horrible rappers but id rather tak a min to name tha few rappers who have came up over the last few years who actually r good. This based on talent, I feel there's 3 things that mak a rapper talented. 1 is the content of the verse, does wat they r sayin mean anything. 2 lyrics, can they mak good and original rhymes, and 3 flow/delivery.

The only rappers of the last few years with any talent are as followed:
Kendrick lamar- fits all 3 of the above, but above he has content in his music and has points to make
J.cole- similar to kendrick, actually speaks about real life shit and has meaning behind some of his songs
Others- I do like kid ink alot, although he isn't an extremely talented rapper he has a nice, smooth flow over a relaxed tempo'd track and I find it too be good chiefin music lol. Being from pittsburgh I listened to wiz khalifas music since he was jus 16 but not that he's actually made it and is becoming more famous he is becoming worse and worse of a rapper. I thumbs his music down on panora. There is a few other artist I don't mind listening too, Lik big sean but none are favored in any way.

Personally I wud rather listen to some eazy e, some Nate dogg, lil bit of tupac or biggies always good. Bone thugs n harmony r my favorite.

Basically to wrap it up MOST of modern rap sucks, they can't rap and promote nothin positive in there lyrics. I would rather listen to the 90s rap scene then today's, what are your guys thoughts?

Well for one its not the 90s anymore, good rap isnt played on the radio. But as for radio rappers i do like A$Ap rocky is pretty decent. Juicy j is still a goon. TDE as a whole is good not just kendrick, Jay rock, school boy q and ab soul spit flame. BIG KRIT has some good stuff. iDK man that old stuff is dope but theres definitely more talent out now then back then, espically with youtube and the internet and being able to promote yourself. lotta guys on youtube laying down kill verses. Prince ea, Wax, palmer squares just gotta do some digging and you'll find some gold.

Yes, it's because the good music from (insert any musical genre, insert period from past) is still played to this day, while the shitty music has faded into oblivion.

I think there was just as much bad music then as there is now. I hear where you're coming from though because I used to feel the same way until I was able to get some appreciation for the newer style beats. Now maybe it's the same sort of thing, and I'm behind on the times, but I really couldn't even listen to that new Kanye album.

New rap is like most other music today, it rarely comes to a comparison.
Rap has been on a slide for years already with a couple seemingly promising
artists to pop up along the way.

I see real rap as tunes made by people who actually lived the life, real OG's - where rap came from.

lol it's not necessarily the best but it's trap music.

Even this tune, chin check, while an awesome song and solid gangsta it came out during the beginning
of the end of real rap. It took some true OG's to come back and school the kids on what rap really is.

Gucci, trash. Worst of em all. Currency ok, not anything great. they're exactly who I don't like, jus nonsense wit no point. I did leave others out tho, b.o.b is a fav of mine. I Lik asap, deffinatly bump him but nota huge fan. I do listen to alot of newer music and bump it, I like some more then others.

You like that soft ass rap, curren$y is about everything he says and he's got killer flo. Have you heard trap got 1 or 2? Both go too hard. 50 Cent is a great rapper, older shit was better though. Raider Klan is the next thing to be big these lil nigga's go hard, Simmie, Denzel, Banks, Nell, Pouya, all raiders.

I agree there are plenty of shitty rappers today, but there were back in the 90's too.. overall I'd say lyrics today are a lot more complex and impressive than back then. Eazy is a prime example of an old school rapper who, while talented, wrote pretty elementary lyrics.

Today's rappers tend to be more articulate IMO. I especially like rappers who blend old school style with more complex rhyme schemes.. like The Game early in his career.

That's your opinion, in my opinion currency has a mediocre flow with a barely average rhyme scheme. 50 cent was good, was. I can't say I've heard anything from the others mentioned so nothing to say them. I wouldn't say I like "soft ass rap", I'm tired of the whole I'm from the hood ill kill yu rhymes. I like content in my music, for example kendrick Lemar hii power, has alot to say. Or skill, for example big sean is talented lyrically and doesn't say the same shit in every worse. I like modern rap, I guess a more descriptive way of sayin it would be rappers who've apeared over the lets say 2 or so years, people Lik chief keef, future, French Montana, tyga. No positive message in any song.

Now as far as the old school rap goes, yeah good example. I agree, up until rakim the rap games rhyme scheme was rather basic. As the later 90s came it got more advanced and now a days there are SOME rappers who are very good with word play and the lyrics often have reference to something and can be impressive, but on the other had alot of the more mainstream rappers are trash and often have little to no lyrical talent. I listen to them, I often bump modern rap more often in the vehicle because it has better bass and hits alot better then older rap.

Bone thugs n harmony are still in my opinion some of the best overall. Krayzie bone is in my opinion ONE of the best rappers whose still in the game although not much is out by him. Much more talented then most rappers now a days and his flow isnt comparable with any of todays artist. My bone thugs pandora channel has more play then any other. This is my opinion, I don't wanna hear how many ways yu can talk shit I wana hear points or references or something to show some sort of intelligence

Modern rap is hit or miss. There are some new tracks that are off the meat rack, but 90's rap and early 2000's are pretty much where it's at. I have a spotify playlist with something like 200 tracks from the 90's-2000's, and like 40 tracks for recent shit.
