MMPR Grow op: Small Scale

I agree with mikethegrower! As a DG, you are supposed to charge your patients for all of their medicine. How did you think this works WHATFG? How is a DG going to cover their costs if they don't charge you for what you take?
No you are not allowed to sell any product as a DG. Selling product even to your patient is still illegal. What you must charge for is labour and operational costs. Now the overall cost can work out to x amount a gram or ounce but you are not allowed to sell it that way. Any invoices that state product for price will not be allowed to be used as income for tax purposes. Basic knowledge for DG's where I come from...JAS

Thanks for clarifying that JAS. I was unsure on the technical details but was pretty certain that a DG would have to report the income and the patient is supposed to pay for their medicine, and then claim it as a medical expense.

Three things... I don't own a multi-national multi-million dollar company.

And if I can get going I won't have a facility thats 50,000sqft

Last but most important I will only manufacture one "pharmaceutical drug"

Bad attitude to have? To try and help out patients that will suffer from the new MMPR? Weird I guess I'm alone
Ah...the problem with the written word, is my comment was made in satire, not as an inflammatory remark. Didn't mean to get your hackles up. I'm just tired of people always being against "the man"...any man...every man...so on and so forth. Sooner or later, everybody becomes "the man." Become a manager at McDonalds, and you're "the man" all the 16 year old punks in the kitchen hate. Sorry, but trying to make a point that if u become an LP...u will be "the man" that other patients will complain about.

For anyone that thinks that they need a MASSIVE facility with 25,000 or 75,000 square feet is wrong. My current plan uses almost all of 18,000 sqft for my gardens, almost 500 sqft for drying curing, and 100 sqft for safe storage. From that I will produce approx 136kg/month...after deducting product for testing submission, and for sample record storage, that will leave me with 135,000 grams of Rx g/month. That will result in a net profit (after all expenses) of nearly $5.6million after 4 full grow cycles at 100% production capacity, and retailing at $6/g. Excel spreadsheet told me so :)
So will that mean that I now become "the man" that a bunch of other people will "want to take down?" Probably. But for patients that will receive my product, I'm sure they will appreciate the quality.

@mr.weeds...if you mean to say that you will only manufacture one strain, then I don't see a lot of success in that plan. McDonalds wouldn't be where they are if all they had on their menu was the fillet-o-fish and nothing else. Multiple strains, grown to produce varying thc & cbd caters to patient variety and choice. Even slight thc/cbd variance in 1 single strain of plant can help to prevent "tolerence" build-up to the product when consumed daily for days/weeks/months on end. I know I wouldn't want the same crackers everyday for months on end. After a while, the body will respond better to slight changes in the consumption, even between 2 alternating products, than just smoking the same single product.

Cheers

To somebody we are all "the man". We hate the man too.
More than two varieties are necessary for patients. We believe that HC is the "Compassion Club" and you will shop looking through the glass counters at the different LP's strains choosing what you want, not forced to buy from a single LP unless your doc wouldn't break up your prescription. A bit of Viagra, a little Cialis, and a whack of keep it hard. 3 LP's. The Man, hopefully lol.

Just a quick update on the building I looked at last week since I said I would give one...It sucked tbh lol. The description sounded good as it had many of the requirements needed but understood why the lack of pictures once seeing it first hand. Oh well the search continues.

Hire Tanya Harding and buy a lead pipe for her...pay her $100,00/year...lots of "Mans" will fall! LOL

@Raider...keep looking! I don't know where you are or what your plans are, but keep looking! I am off to look at a place this weekend. It used to be a facility for breeding goats, so it already has a fully designated lab space complete with security lockers. Only problem is that the "barn" is uninsulated and has dirt floors. The cost of pouring a concrete slab over 18,000 sqft is huge. Insulating won't be too expensive with sweat equity :)

I understand what your saying but maybe its I just like to see multi billion dollars spread out not just in one persons pocket, mom and pop shops excel, compassion for people ahead of making a dollar. Care about the customer and the profits will follow. no I meant more then one type of drug not just cannabis. good luck everyone

Hey all, first time poster though several month of reviewing commentary. From what I have gleaned there is plenty of excellent information which has helped me complete my application. My organization is also in queue with our application number in the 60's. We are actually quite close to obtaining our pre-construction letter from Health Canada and am hoping to have same within 30 days at the outside. As an indication of how far along we are, HC has asked if we can split our application into two portions, securing our production area and submitting on that basis, and then finalizing the balance concurrently. We are not a small group but are not aiming at a Tweed sized facility either. We have estimated our start-up costs at over $1million and from my experience in going through this process and all the 'stuff' required believe that this is not really a game for the faint of heart or those that do not really have some assets behind them. I noticed that a number of individuals here are looking for assistance with the QA portion of their applications and find that HC focus' a serious interest in this portion of your application along with the security portion. While this is not news, this can get very expensive as well as time consuming. We have spoken about getting a group of producers internally and would be also willing to entertain such a notion. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any specific questions or thoughts. Good luck to all as well.

Hi Pure Nature, welcome to the forum. Our application number is in the low 30's and we are hoping for the ready to build in the coming week. It has been a trying process for us as well with almost daily phone calls and emails from HC lately. I guess that means we are getting close.

We very much want and I believe need to collaborate with other LP's. Without co-operation, we will have great difficulty developing this industry. We need to work together for promotions, marketing, lobbying, advocacy, etc. Please PM me or send me a contact email.

Cheers and best of luck

Thanks Pure Nature for the heads-up ! Good luck to you on your next milestone. Can you inform us on how big of a space you guys are considering for production for $1million cost. I'm assuming this would be including the upgrading of an existing or construction of a new site. I just want to have an idea of much we're looking at for our smaller operation between 2000-2500 sq ft, considering of course other variables!
Cheers.

Hi everyone, first time posting. I am also in the process of sending out my application. Facility will be 4000 sqft. in western Quebec. I have some questions if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
1) it is very vague about the SOPs, Do u need to send out the SOP report with the application ? cause it is not written anywhere. It only requires the QAR report.
2) Kootenaygirl, you were saying how your QAR report was only 5% of your whole application, and basically u just stated that you were in compliance with every requirement, did u think it was enough ?
3) security plans, do you need the specifications of the hardware or just basically tell them what your gonna do and where the cameras etc will be ?
4) records keeping, im not sure what they want.. an excel spreadsheet with all the infos needed ?

Really?...This is a new industry, a business. Do you really want to give your future competitors help? Do you want to share your marketing ideas? Cooperating in a future lobbying effort makes sense but I'm not sure about the rest of it.

LOL... there was 30k+ ppl with licenses in the old legislation.. there are 3-4 corporations so far under the new laws... it is gonna be a while before we will have to "compete" with each other.

Amen, brother, amen. People think that 3 or 4 LPs will be all that's needed to supply ALL the patients in Canada. It's just not true. If anyone doing an LP application is worried about being late into the game, they have not scrutinized the numbers well enough.

Cheers

Welcome to the thread wurdperfect. Please read it all if you have not. Make a few posts so you can PM. Keep us posted on your results.
1 No SOP's.
2 Would not have sent it to HC if I thought otherwise.
3 Give them details with security, it will be scrutinized the heaviest.
4 Make copies of all your invoices and proposed transactions and send them copies to look at, this will force you to choose a program.
5 Make an exact copy of your application and keep up with it as you communicate with HC, goodluck.

It is a tight rope deciding on how far to help your competition, but we don't think that this will be decided in the application process. Your quality and efficiencies growing combined with your business skills will decide who succeeds and who fails. We are both patients and wannabe LP's and have dealt with HC before as many of you have, they are obstructionists fighting the spread of marihuana and that makes me want to help the fellow little guy.

Beat me in the grow room, on the website, and crush me with your high quality weed, leave me wanting with all your different strains, while making me broke with your low, low prices, and make me envious of your larger bankroll, but till then lets help each other get a license from those bastards in Health Canada. We all have a common enemy, and they want us to fight them one at a time.

The MMAR only succeeded the last few years because everyone helped each other get through all the bullshit.
