I agree that hydro is the way to go eventually but I think theres a ton to be learned running in soil for your first few grows.
well I think I have found my method to grow. Im going to use hempy buckets wich is simple, cheap, easy, and looks beginner friendly. and the best part its hydro made simple. what do you guys think? and ya I have thought about odor but my grandma says she knows how to deal with that..

check out this set up im shooting for something like this...http://www.marijuanapassion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54097

for those of you who dont know this is what the hempy bucket method is..........http://www.growkind.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29638

for lighting I will use floresents for the veg stage and when its time to flower I will probably have the $ to buy a decent hps set up.

My grandpa says he wants me to grow in shed and hes willing to fork out the dough (I love my grandparents!)what would be the best method for cooling. do they sell mini a/c's or something i can use to cool the shed?

Well, first thing you want to do to address heat is to buy an "air cooled" hps. and a fan. The fan pulls air through the light and you vent it outside the room. Now, that dumps a lot of the heat right there but you will also need an a/c (size would depend on shed size) to keep the room itself cool, the vegging plants also.

well, they're easy. Personally, if you want to go the hydro route, I would just assemble a small rdwc set up like I use. 4 buckets plus the reservoir per set up. I run 3 of them

Hempy's.... I just love them. I've tried several mediums and followed many others who have even tried lava rock and made it work. Through this I've come up with my own style of hempy which I believe is the easiest and best method.

I use a combination of soil and perlite (coarse - size 3 seems the best)
Start seed or clone in plastic cup in soil, once roots set and show its time to transplant. At this point you will need to know your final hempy bucket size. For example a 2 gal bucket is 10" tall, you'll want the top of soil an inch from the top and you want the soil to stop at 2" above the hole this will mean your soil core should be about 4" the size of your cup. I now use 3.5 gal buckets that are 15" so I transplant into 1 gal soil container and veg for a few more weeks to set roots.

Build a bucket, on the site you listed it showed a large hole covered with a screen, better way measure up 2" and drill a hole 7/16" that's it. Fill with perlite to 2" above the hole. Grab your jar of Osmocote + and sprinkle 2 tbs on the perlite. Set soil core, fill around core with perlite to 3" below the top of your soil core. Put in 1" of soil then sprinkle 1 1/2 tbs osmocote around core on soil. Top with final 2" of soil. Its done just water.

Theres a book that will teach you how to grow 8 ounces for 100$ or less. After the first grow you can afford a much better setup :)
