Hi, guys, currently growing 3 plants (Holy Grail Kush, Sativa Seedbank Full Moon, and bagseed which I simply call Mary Jane Doe) all in second week of flower under a 600wt HPS. I've been reading alot about how growing under MH during flower will produces more quality buds with less weight whereas growing directly under HPS during flower produces less quality buds but more yield. I've found this to be true in my experience. I have a digital ballst and a 600wt MH Bulb and a 600wt hps bulb. I also have another 150 wt Hps magnetic ballast. Now here's my question, would it be better to flower under the 600wt metal halide and throw in the 150 wt hps and do that for the entire flower or should i grow under the 600wt hps then switch to the 600 mh and 150 hps for the last few weeks of flower? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also have a 85 and 105 wt cfl bulb blue spectrum and a 65wt cfl red sprectrum.

I'd set it up now both hps and mh if I was going for the gusto. Just remember you'll probably have to up your waterings etc so you'll have to tweek a few things.

For flower I start with a 600 MH and a 400 HPS for weeks 1-2, weeks 3-7 I run 600 HPS and 400 HPS, weeks 7-chop I run 600 HPS and 400 MH. HPS makes em fat n MH makes em hard, or I could just be imagining it but that seems to work better for me than straight HPS for flower

Yea, i believe running both will have great results. I plan on buy a 400wt digital ballast so i can easily which between dual setting myself. Right now I have the 600mh and 150 hps running until i get the 400wt. But since i'm only growing 3 plants right now i feel like the 600mh and 150 hps should do pretty good for this harvest. Hoping for at least 12 oz, i don't know how much of a yield drop i'll get running the 600mh instead of the hps.

  • LOL!! You can actually tell the difference in potency of pot grown under MH vs HPS by smoking it? You can tell the difference in yield w/o a scales? You're a BAD man!!! I've run that experiment a few times & I'm here to tell you that in MY experience there is no perceiveable difference in potency, and any difference in my yield off 72 plants, if there exists one, would be measured in grams. I didn't even see a diff in bud density. I actually prefer MH over HPS, just because it's easier on my eyes.
That being said, I have settled on a mixed spectrum, and hang both over the flowering table. As of now, I manually rotate the table to get the pants under the lights to expose them to both spectrums. I cant decide whether to make a powered "lazy susan" type of rotation system, or come up with a way to rotate the lights so that they get an equal distribution. I may just stay with the manual rotation cuz the Edison bill is already pushing my the limits of my comfort zone.

Yea, I had this diesel auto flower plant flowering in my room with my vegging plant. I didn't care about the auto flower enough to set the hps up for in my cabinet so I just stuck it in there. Came out looking better smelling better and tasting better than all other that I flowered under hps alone. It wasn't a side by side experiment with the same strains but the difference in potency and taste was obvious. My other plant was huge but the quality was what we'd call beasters here whereas the auto flower was some dank. I'll post results when chopping time comes.
