Mixing hps and led.

My 4x4 tent has a 400w qb in it. I feel as though it's underpowered for flower. Is it all good to jam a 400w hps in as well?

how close can you have or do you have these boards to the grow? i must admit im assuming there much like the ts range of lighting for how close you can have them from the plant, so quite close, a 400w sodium is going to pump out some heat, meaning it would have to be kept further away causing shadow under the led. ????? im not sure

I get what you're saying, I figure if the bottom edge of the wing of the lampshade of the hps is at the same height as the qb there should be little to no shadow and about 6inches higher than the led

Brings my watts per foot up to 50. Bit more mix to the spectrum. I have hps hanging so there's no shadowing. I'm sure it will be all good. Still have my fingers XD though

Not true. I have a 600w HPS and my plant is 14 inches away. I raise it to 18 inches every week or so. Also, my temps are only 81F. I do have a air cooled hood though with a 25 foot duct running to my ac. If I got a proper exhaust fan I would have lower temps. If I were you, switch to a 600w HPS. I’m day 42 today from sprout. You should have no issues with lighting for veg of flower for your 4x4. If you can’t get a 600w hood, just use the 400w HPS with no led and keep it about 14 inches from your canopy

I'm using them both. Hanging height works out pretty good. I've got the hps at about 400mm above canopy and led about 300 which leaves no shadowing which is good. I've seen some really good results on YouTube mixing led and hps. Mixed spectrum and the hps keeps it all a bit warm and I could remove my oil heater. And me power bill hasn't changed as I was using 400w led 24hrs and now I'm using 800w for 12hours.
