Mites in worm bin?!

I started a worm bin recently and little brownish red mites have exploded in it along with my wigglers.
I've tried boosting the PH with eggshells/oyster shells and have moved it outside and taken lid off to dry it out.
But they are still in there..
Has anyone else experienced this?
Any advice would be really appreciated I'm afraid to have my castings anywhere near my girls until I can figure this out.

I have several types of mites in my worm bin and they have never caused a problem. When their numbers become too numerous I put a slice of watermelon in and when they all gather on it I remove it ...and them, but they don't seem to harm my plants.

They are decomposers and they belong there. The population explodes from overfeeding, so slow up on the feeding.

And bring them back inside, bad things happen to wormbins outside, just slow up on the food and water.

It's bad when you DON'T see any other bugs in the bins, they are really what you want to see and are a big help breaking food down for the worms to consume and are part of the process.

I usually feed about once/month and never more often than every 2 weeks and I never bury food. Also, avoid 'wet' foods like veggies/fruits except every once in a while. They add too much moisture to the bin. Have 5 bins going ATM.

check it buy you a shit load of espoma brand chicken manure mix that shit in your pile it gets fucking hot it fuck that shit might kill em if you get a lot

Compost mites you'll be ok, just don't let them overwhelm the worms.
