Mirrors???

Would lining a grow box or grow room with mirrors be a suitible substitute for mylar or white paint? Would it be more reflective?

I actually just copied and pasted your first sentence into google, it took me about 1.5 seconds. Clicked on a link, and this is what I found within like 5 seconds of reading your post.

Many people get mirrors or tin foil and line their grow area
with it. This is NOT good. MIRRORS ABSORB LIGHT. This
means that only a small amount of your light is reflected back towards
your plant. What you need is something white. White is the best color
for reflecting light, period. Not shiny glossy white, just plain ‘flat’
white. A white wall will reflect more light than a mirror will. Many
growers like to paint the walls of their grow ‘flat’ white. This helps a
lot. Other people like to line their grow area with the back end of tin
foil wrapping (the white side). This is okay, but make sure that you use
the white side and not the shiny side.

Lol @ Google dick ahahaha he is right though in most cases your better off just leaving the walls white. Home depot sells some cool shit called Reflectix it looks like shiny bubble wrap its actually ducting insulation or if you dont have enough money just look at the camping section for emergency blankets that go in your trunk or camping gear these are made of mylar and very reflective. lol my man didnt even type in google either he copied and pasted.

I use the white pegboard on top of bubble wrap foil from Lowes.

The wholes in the pegboard help prevent hotspots.

Plus you can hang things from it like air pumps and the screen.

I bought myself that reflectix stuff from home depot, but its gets REALL expensive if you're doing a larger scale grow (a room, opposed to a a cabinet or closet).

ill stick to my cheap roll of mylar, my mylar has lasted years and cost me much less then good paint

As for mirrors, no good, they absorb light moreso then paint or mylar.

Then again.. I have this this friend whose in his 60's, been growing since he was 18. Never opened up a horticulture book and never looked up anything online, and he told me he's used mirrors before. I'm sure if your walls are black, a mirror would be much more effective than letting the black absorb the light, but compared to mylar/white paint/panda film, it's pitiful.

And sixstring I believe you're right about the IR, thats why it's used for car windshields and whatnot. It's much easier to manage than mylar and it doesnt require you having to paint over anything either

Yeah mirrors are painted black on the back side so im sure it would absorb more heat than reflect it. Good question though. makes you think.

I have access to an abundant source of free reflectex. They ships it to my work to prevent basil from rotting. I collect it and bring it home if you're ever in need drop me a line.
