Miracle Grow All Purpose 24-8-16

Hey,

I am a first time grower. I currently have a half dozen plants growing indoors with 3 small lamps on them. I have gone 12/12 for a week and I am about to sex them as soon as possible. I used Schultz Premium soil with some kind of multicote vitiman in the soil. I have a Miracle-Gro All Purpose Water Soluble Plant Food 24-8-16 with micronutirents. My plants are looking fairly healthy with fair sized pots. One plant is over a foot but the leafs are curling a bit, but that plant had been one of the fastest ones to get get to a foot and maybe I should be changing containers, maybe it is too late. I would like some guidance if possible about the curling leaf and the plant food as to if and when i should use it..

you need to change your food for flowering. there is an orchid food that can usually be found next to miracle grow. it is 10-10-30. i used it for years before other nutes were available to me.
 
The leaf curl you're seeing could easily be a direct result of using these high powered fertilizers. In short, you may be seeing the result of over-ferting/toxification of the soil.

Well I actually have not used any of the Miracle-Gro as of yet...
just the Soil. Is the miracle-gro 24-8-16 ineffective?
 
I would re read the label on the soil you used. My guess is that there's fertilizer in it...not vitamins. If there isn't fert in it.... and you have curling leaves I would suspect the meduim is to "heavy" (straight potting soil...etc w/ no added perlite) and it is causing an over watering situation/waterlogged roots.

Or..you're growing Blueberrry or one of it's crosses. the BB's I have grown always curl...

I use the same fert, and actually last growth, I continued using it till the 3 rd week of 12/12, onse you switch the plant to 12/12 it goes through growth spurt and still likes high nitrogen food, If you didnt add perlite to your soil, its deffinatly a water retention problem, careful with the ferts in that case , they will collect and linger in the soil, if you are sot extremely careful, they might burn your plants.

Wow, those are the same ferts Im using and our plants appear to be the same age, I counted 5 nodes on your plants and I have 7. I woke up this morning and noticed the plants had stretched, and I began to worry, but it looks like Im still alright.

what type of lights are those? they must not be very strong since the plants are doing some massive stretching and look a little lanky/skinny. You should probably get rid of those bulbs and pack that little space full of CFL's. Im using 6 CFL's right now to veg 5 plants, and they seem to be doing alright.

You might wanna consider transplanting the plants into smaller containers, large containers tend to hold more moisture than smaller plants can hold and your plants can easily become over watered since they are so small compared to the size of the plants.

I forgot to mention Im still in veg..but once I switch em to flower they will explode with new growth!
 
Yeah that all purpose is for veg.
Miracle Gro also has a bloom formula.

You want to start any fert at 1/4 manuf. recommended dose.
You need to transplant to larger pots and bury the plant up to the 1st set of round leaves.
You need to mix perlite or vermiculite with the soil for better drainage.

I would get the lights as close as possible without burning the plants.
This will cut down on your stretching.

I would use that fert you have at 1/4 strength for about 2 weeks (fert once maybe twice a week).
When you go to bigger pots you do not need to water or feed nearly as often.
A moisture meter would be good.
You want the soil to be mostly dry before you feed again.

After 2-3 more weeks of veg I would then go to flower.
 
there is also a 120 watt halogen work light which is really warm and bright. but i will invest in those cfl lights. are my plants screwed now because they are skinny/lanky?
 
Do not use the halogen it is TOO hot.
CFL's will do you justice.

Nah you are not screwed.
Just bury them up to the cotelydons like I said earlier.
Be cautious and do not over do the ferts.
 
ive already turned the lights to 12/12 for over a week. I was instructed to do that after the plants reached a foot in height.

what do I do lol
 
cotelydons as in the very two round leaves that came up at the start? To bury them do I just compact the soil and add more or do I have to transplant ( which I already have done earlier because I used started pots)
