Mini Split vs Window AC

So I'm starting to put my sealed room together and I'm stuck here. Both systems seem great to me except I can get the window AC for $300 less not to mention I don't have to pay for installation. Am I missing something here? Is there a reason more people use mini splits than window acs? Do I have to worry about smell coming out from the window unit?

I get a small amount of smell from my window unit. In my situation it is manageable, but it is there. I am interested to hear some professional opinions also.

Thanks for the reply. Are you using an in-room scrubber?
Yes I am, 2 of them in fact, but not the highest quality. I am definitely going with Phresh the next time. Like I said, it's not a major issue but if I had closer neighbors it might be!

I've got some experience working on both. Some window units have baffles in them to allow some outside air circulation, but I've seen a couple that don't. If you can find a brand without the option of circulating outside air in, you're good, but remember that it's gonna have more of a perimeter area which means more area to seal, versus a small hole with copper, electrical, and drain holes for condensation. If the cash isn't a huge issue I'd properly opt for a split. Easier to replace parts on them versus a window unit, should it ever come to it. Just my two cents.

My window banger makes noise when it turns on and runs, my split makes no noise while running. My window slut also leaks smell.
