milk crate grow box.

I recently put together my first grow box by taking two milk crates, lining them with aluminum foil and hanging two light sockets from the inside bottom of the flipped crate. I have two 23watt CFL's...one is 6500k for vegetation and the other is 2700k for when i get to the flowering stage. i figure since i can really only fit one small plant in there i can get by with just those lights. im going to add a small fan in a few days too.

This is my second time trying to grow. the first time i halfassed an outdoor grow and all the plants died as seedlings. this time i wanted to do the research and actually try so im wondering if anyone has some pointers. once i have a better understanding of the process im going to upgrade my system.

why even waste all the time for a few joints worth of bud
Roger that...3months of growing for maybe 10grams tops...if u can finish a plant in a box like that...most ppl cant.....growing in a box like that isnt easy

I don't see why you couldn't. Give it a go, worst case scenario your plant dies and you learned a whole bunch from it. Best case, maybe you get some bud. What's to lose, guys? Don't be putting the man down for trying. For some people small is the way to grow.

For the love of growing... Are you saying you hated the first time you smoked your own homegrown yeah it's not going to be a pounder but still I think the op understands that.

Use a computer fan or something to much air movement can be bad plus with tin foil you will hear it constantly scrog the bottom crate with a net or chicken wire type you are going to need some serious training to make it worth while that way you can get more than three joints. Use good soil, don't over water it or kill it with love ( to much nutrients). Deaf top her to help keep her small obv hahaha and lst will be key . Do a lot of research you are going to want her a close to perfect as you can it will defiantly be a huge learning experience for you.. Best of luck to you buddy!

I love the micro grows, but a couple observations.
1. Ditch the foil, use mylar or even white cardboard as long as you get it sealed so there are no light leaks. Foil will just reflect heat and cause hot spots.
2. Make sure you get good airflow pulling in fresh air and venting heat out.
3. Make sure you do not have any light leaks during flowering, these will cause the plant to turn her I and give you nothing to smoke.
4. Read up on LST, this will allow you to get a decent yield in a short space.

Good luck and enjoy the grow

agreed on the mylar. its about 3 bucks. at our stores here.

LST is key i tried to keep the main tip lower than the branch; it helped keep things compact for me.

Space may be an issue but if you can rig up a system so you can take out your plant when you need to tend to it then that would be a way to go.

Something with handles maybe?
I would figure the airflow may be good with the holes already on the crate. Not sure how you are going to light proof it unless you line the outside with cardboard.

just an idea. if you do like 90% covered with cardboard on the outside to seal the leaks and figure out a way to make a light trap on the bottom you will have the passive airflow coming from the outside air

and ten grams isnt bad. I just finished a PC grow. Learned quite a bit i would think. I would hate to have had more plants to deal with then fuck them all up at once.

I started with 6; ended with 1 but it was a glorious 1:) :joint:

I mean obviously its not going to be a lot of bud but like i said im just trying to get the process down. if i get something out of it then thats great if not i really dont care. I was looking at taking the computer fan off my friends old desktop just the other day actually so it looks like thats what im going to do. i was thinking i would just put it on the outside and cut out the foil (or if i get mylar) around it. that way its intake as well. I read that i would need 100 watts for one plant and right now i only have a small light. eventually im going to take it out of the box and put it in a pot outside but while its in the box do you think ill need a stronger light?

i used 69watts (3x23 Watts)

i would think the exhaust is the most important. try running the crate without the plants (maybe when they are germ.) and see how hot it gets.

credit for using your iniative. PC fan wired to an old nokia charger would work well with that mini setup. i use a pc fan on mine an well, ive had good results with it.

Also im not sure if its cause im a little drunk here, and ive never tried the two methods....but the way them milk crates are setup makes me think of SOG and possible mainlining training come to mind since the plants could actualy grow threw them gaps in the crates...does anyone else see the same thing?
