metal halide for fresh seedlings?

Usually start freshly cracked seedlings under my big cfl,but I broke that shit yesterday, and cannot gt another now. Have them under a 500 watt mh (1000w dimmed 50%) at 4' away, super far. I'm keeping temps 74-77f and rh is a little low for now 40% or so.
will using the hid hurt my seedlings. Is it the light intensity that can harm seedlings? Or excessive heat usually caused by it? Because my temps are good, right?

Not a problem, I actually use a 600 sometimes.

I use 1000watt, hps and mh, mix, on clones and seedlings. Never a problem if there not too close.

Just expensive light for seedlings...

How close you usually keep the distance for seedlings?

All different size ladies in there.
I also, trim cut, hack, slash, constantly top every node, super crop, monster crop. Veg room is always on 24 because all the lights on different timing. 6000watts. I'm very harsh on my ladies, and never had a hermie problem (knock on wood). A lot you can do in 2-3 months veg.

Got my 1 day old seedlings at 3.5'. Is this too excessive? My temps are mid 70'sf

Don't listen to anyone other than you ladies. From everyone talking on the forums, they are the only ones that never lie. You just need to know how to listen.

Really not a problem, I use MH to veg seeds, clones , whatever , I use a 600w dimmed to 300w but sometimes its at 600w it doesn't really make a huge difference just put it away from the intense light if they look like its too strong. Like Dumme said listen to the ladies.
