Metal Halide Bulb question, please help

Does anyone know why my brand new 70 watt Sylvania Metal Halide HID bulbs don't work in the same sockets as my 16 watt CFL's, they have the same exact base size and both fit perfectly into the sockets, but the MH ones just don't turn on. I've also put both of them in other lamps and stuff at my house and they don't turn on, do they need some kind of special socket or did I just get shitty bulbs. Any information would be greatly, greatly appreciated

wow go look at the lighting section......im not comming off brash as i am a newbie here also but i lurked aroung this site for two months gathering info before posting
any hid light needs a specific ballast for that light

whats a cfl???? do you mean an enviorotile?

you need a seperat ballast to ignight the HID bulb

Any suggestions on where I could find said balast, a really small, plug-in adapter of said balast would be ideal.
