There's a market price for commodity stainless. A company has to sell at that price or lose business.

There are many American steel producers, some owned by foreign companies such as Acelor, so obviously they are competitive.

The Chinese (and others) governments subsidize steel and other companies enabling them to beat the market price.

The union company I worked has not had a operating loss for decades, but when they file trade complaints, they are frequently rejected because the arbitor rules that they're profitable and trying to 'corner the market'.

Do you have any idea how high those subsidies are considering how much it costs to ship a 1000 tons of steel across the ocean?

Look up ge turkey. Boeing turkey. You see GE makes engine parts all over the world. 45% of the new leap is made in Turkey. Why? Because they save around .3% in engine cost. Engines run $6 mil to $15 mil. The only way they will move the work back is if us workers work for $5 an hour. This is how trump expects to compete. Lower us wages. He has stated it numerous times. I'm glad I'm retired. Also automation has minimized labor. There will be less jobs in the future no matter what. Maybe you youngsters can figure it out....
