I'm using greenleaf nutrients for the first time. Can be a little complicated. I read a review one time where this girl cut off MC at week 4 in flowering and used sweet candy until harvest. My question is if you use MC all the way through your leaves will stay green and full of chlorophyll. Would love to hear some comments please

I'm a big fan of Mega Crop one part and ProMix HP !

Extra Cal/Mag and ph down are not necessary.....

I start feeding right away with 1g/gallon and roughly follow their feeding schedule right to harvest.

And yes, the leaves will stay green all the way ;)

I've only tried Bud Explosion sparingly and don't feel it worth the effort/$.

Their web site has a table where you can enter the amount of water you are mixing up and it will tell you how many grams per that amount and that stage of growth. I also watch for slight yellowing on the bottom fan leaves to tell me when they are ready for an increase in feed.

Also watch for leaf tip burn. If you see it your last increase may have been too early.

Some say if you don't have at least some leaf tip burn you are not trying hard enough

Current grow on day 10 of 12/12 for a total of 51 days @3.6g/gallon...

Day 10 of 51 The Girls high 6 Nov.jpg

BTW > my 25# bag had small balls in it, can't remember which element it was but I use a coffee mill grinder to incorporate them...

Cheers

Hey chuckeye, I want to try your method but, I'm in Canada so the only grobuckets I can get is a 3 pk for $155 cad. That's stupid expensive. Thats without buckets, just the inserts. The other thing I noticed on their website is the part one has slightly different npk numbers. The American stuff is 11-5-14 and the Canadian stuff is 9-6-17. So um yeah, not sure if it would work the same.

I'm in Canada also and managed to buy my GroBuckets from Lee Valley just before they stopped stocking them !

Clearance price of $33/3pc. Got the fourth one from a friend who had to buy six to end up with four :o

I have also used the MC in fabric bags and ProMix HP with almost the same results.... Just makes watering a little different :weed:

Apparently they have changed their formula Slightly three times over the last 5 (?) years And did not change the numbers on the bags until they ran out of their current stock of bags

So not to worry, it's likely you will get the latest mix. I think you would be hard pressed to notice the difference between the last two versions.

BTW > SIP's are quite easy to DIY if you want to go that way.

Or, if you have an American friend that can reship for you ?

Buy direct from the maker > https://grotechgarden.com/products/grobucket-self-watering-insert

I sent them an inquiry as to Cdn shipping or alternate Cdn supplier, will report back...

Cheers

Hey, thanks for that. :) Yeah, I grow in SIPs, not homemade, but City Pickers SIPs. I usually mix up a coots mix and seems to work well, but your method seems more simple, easier. We've chatted before about your method, but I still haven't pulled the trigger on the equipment, nutrients or Promix yet.

KISS is the best ;)

Before I bought the GroBuckets I discovered a 1 gallon ice cream container fits nicely in the bottom of a 5 gallon pail for a reservoir.

Then you could use a soldering gun to make grooves along the top of the ice cream bucket, a series of small holes in the bottom and cut a hole for a PVC fill tube. A level indicator can be as simple as a cork on wood skewer !

One of my pails is coco for the first time, just because, he, he..

But ProMix HP has been my go to medium for quite a while, I like total control of my feed.

Answer from GroBuckets >

We are working on getting our product back into Canada. In the meantime time if you give me your address, I can get a quote o. The shipping and let you know. I would order a 10 pack based on shipping cost.

Best Regards

Thanks for your reply. But my thing is if all that chlorophyll is in your plants when you harvest I would think it's gonna have a harsh taste. I've been growing for 10 yrs and never put anything with nitrogen in it past the 5th or 6th week. I just go with pk boosters

Hmmm, and I don't use pk boosters, Mega Crop one part has everything you need from start to finish...

Check this out, not harsh at all bongsmilie

How I dry/cure my harvest

PK boosters do more harm than good growing in containers. There's more than enough P and K in their formula.

I use their old 2 part formula 5-12-26 and ran their one part in the past. I lower nitrogen slightly in flower.

Having a green plant at harvest doesn't equate to harsh smoke, that's down to the drying process and quality of the product. That being said a overfed plant will always underperform and often taste harsh.

Mega Crop is legit, it's also mega messy. As far as performance goes, use it from start to finish for the best results.

It's a powder, how is that messy ?

When I used it, it was VERY dusty and messy. I couldn't even open the bag without getting a plume of dusty nutrients rising out of the bag. I'm sure that's not great to breathe in and i could see the dust accumulating on my scale over the 2 months that I tested it (because I weighed out my dose for hydro). Compare that to raw salts like potassium sulfate or MKP where you can make a concentrated stock liquid solution and pull from that; MC was messy.

Obviously you don't do the cooking at home ;)

Flour, corn starch, baking powder, grinding coffee beans, etc....

It's best to portion out the MC into smaller air tight containers, no mess, no fuss when opening !

I just use measuring spoons to weight it out....

Cheers

Yeah, no matter what the best practice is, it's not super convenient to use. I also found that I had to pre-dissolve it before adding it to my res which took about 10 mins. I couldn't even imagine using it for a container garden.

I'm a huge espresso nerd, mega crop is nothing like grinding a light roast for espresso, lol.

Mixing in boiling water speeds up the process significantly but yeah it's for sure more tedious than bottled nutrients. For convenience I make a stock solution that I later dilute.

I can probably mix a nutrient stock batch in less than five minutes with three parts, Calcinit, 5-12-26 and Epsom salt. Mixing then becomes more convenient. Some make two parts but I choose to make one lighter stock solution with all at maybe 8.0 EC to not cause any precipitations.

You're basically making bottled nutrients but it's rather impossible to make a strong stock solutions with the one part 9-7-14 without causing precipitations. This is pretty well documented on the forum.

It's nice to see you back posting on the forum.

Cheers!

When I tested it, that's a question I asked. I don't think anyone answered. But that's good to know! Mega Crop is some good stuff.
