Medical marijuana class action against Health Canada certified by Federal Court

Except that government isn't a private company. How is making Canadian citizens pay for the actions of the government justice? It's not the governments money it's ours. What consequence is there to the actual people responsible? Where's the deterrent for the gov. not to do it again. Albeit the offenders are not in power anymore, but they are ultimately getting away with it, while we pay for their mistakes. I realize that's just the way it is, but in my eyes there's no justice in it. The people who represent us in gov. should be held accountable for their actions. My $.02.

Criminal charges or hefty fines for politicians that approve legislation that blatantly violates the rights of Canadians would be true justice, but the government is merely our agent...taxpayers are liable for everything they do. Personally, I would endorse public stoning, starting with Harper and Rona

the only money a Government has is taxpayer money so any settlement ever paid to anyone is paid by taxpayers.
i think it sucks but what other way can they say sorry...or will they say sorry? they don't hold people accountable so that's off the table..they just wrap it up a "The Government" i bet if they held the people accountable, there would be a lot less mistakes and problems

Maybe they could dock it from the pensions the conservatives will be sucking out of Canada - there would be millions there to help make restitution to those involved. That mail out was done on purpose to cause harm to people, criminal charges should be considered -good luck right.....

We attended court on September 8, 2017 to settle the terms of the certification order and the form of notice to be delivered to class members. We anticipate the notice will be delivered to class members within the next few months, once the necessary procedures have been put in place.

No. No update the last I checked.

Fall 2018 certification notices will be sent out to all registered breaches. They’re waiting on a minor clarification (administrative issue) from the court before notices can be sent out.

Unless the Fed’s decide to settle, this will go on for years. Our attorneys are pushing for immediate settlement now. Once notices are sent out, that may put some pressure on the Fed’s to settle? The Privacy Commissioner already delcaled a breach, so it will win eventually. It’s not uncommon for Class Actions to take a decade to work their way thru the courts.

How about we shame Trudeau for settling with a convicted terrorist (Khadar sp?) while simultaneously attempting to prevent mmj patients their settlements. The election is only a year away.....

got my door kicked in..... as a possible result of this mistake..and managed to get all the wife's gold stolen too...
along with my best crop up to that point...about 12 -15 pounds...primo
did the letter cause this.?..can't say for sure...but my neighbour's uncle works at the post office...and it was def my neighbour who broke in....

I feel ....at the time this fiasco was going on .....health Canada was about to lose in court and possibly end up with the MMAR people grandfathered into a system....that health Canada...had no control over...
fearing that they would lose in court also ....would leave over 35,000 people with legal paperwork to grow cannabis....and their identities protected by a medical information act....
So in order to ensure a list of the information was kept...they devised a plan to run a high speed camera over their mail out conveyor and essentially film or micro film the large window area's with your personal info and addresses on it.
This list was given to the rcmp... most likely and a data base was written to ensure they do not lose track of the mmar people.(growers)
It is completely obvious that this fiasco was a set up and the envelopes font sizes etc.....chosen on purpose ...
to allow for filming... and there will be a record of who made the decision to purchase and use these envelopes.
All previous communication with health Canada was in unmarked/brown paper envelopes that had no identifiers what so ever....
the big boss (civil servant) at health Canada .....following the police's lead....sold out 40 thousand people's... basic medical info
and should be held responsible for what they did criminally.....
